Union votes to file a 30-day notice

Union teachers could walk out of Denver classrooms as soon as next month because the group has hit an impasse with the district over this fall's contract, including salary and benefits.

Teachers union representatives Tuesday evening voted unanimously to file a 30-day notice with the Colorado Department of Labor warning of an unresolved dispute. <snip>

The union wants a step increase, a 1.1 percent cost-of-living allowance and a district commitment to give teachers back money lost to a salary freeze two years ago. <snip>

Union leaders also want fewer required meetings for teachers and more liberty for educators to deliver the curriculum in the way they feel appropriate. <snip>
