India, Russia, China to hold foreign ministerial meet
http://www.gg2.net/viewnews.asp?nid=2277&tid=breaking_news&catid=Breaking%20News

INDIA, Russia and China will hold a Foreign Ministerial meeting in June, the first stand-alone conference of the three countries striving to enhance cooperation in diverse fields trilaterally.

The meeting will take place in Russia and economic cooperation will be high on the agenda, India’s External Affairs Ministry sources said in New Delhi on Thursday.

Issues like terrorism, energy and UN reforms are also expected to figure in the confabulations, they said. Foreign Ministers of the three countries have met four times in a trilateral forum on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meet and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). This, however, will be first time that a meeting has been called separately.

During the last meeting in Almaty, the three countries had decided to intensify their fight against terrorism and drug trafficking. They discussed the UN`s role in solving world issues and took note of developments in Iraq and Afghanistan. snip

Meeting for the fourth time as part of the trilateral forum, the ministers emphasised the need for multilateralism and greater UN role in world affairs as they demonstrated "convergence of views" on various issues.

1. Reminds me of the Non-Aligned Nations movement of the sixties
and seventies...I think the power paradigm will be moving to the developing nations and away from the U.S-European model...

2. Are you implying that there will be
a U.S.-European alliance?

I was under the impression that the EU is seeking more, not less, independence from the U.S. I was also under the impression that the EU is seeking close ties with China.

But I don't know anything but what I read on DU

5. I see it that way too. US-Europe-Japan
They're the ones who stand to lose the most if the Third World emerges as a power with China, Russia, India, Venezeula, and the rest of LatAm.

Did you notice recently how all of the above stood by China's right to keep Taiwan as part of their country? They all made public statements--some of them twice. A line has been drawn in the sand against the Bushistas.

6. Part of Europe perhaps?
I suspect Germany, France, Spain, and some others will break the other way. I think this will all come to a head when Germany requests the US to remove its military bases.

7. I saw figures for bases in Deutschland yesterday--about 15 bases!!
and I never really gave any thought to Europe, but likely you are correct that some will break away. Then there's Africa to think about--guaranteed they would stand with the Third World countries.

4. BINGO: India, Venezuela agree on need to revitalise NAM
When Chavez went to India recently they discussed just that. I agree that the power play will be the third world vs the developed, otherwise the Third World is completely f*ck'd.

<clips>

NEW DELHI: India and Venezuela on Saturday highlighted the need for revitalisation of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to make it a major pole and a collective voice of the South and pressed for urgent UN reforms in view of "new realities" of the international situation.

3. Seeing as the United States BROUGHT the terrorists into the ME
.
.
.

by opening up the borders of Iraq

I'll betcha that the USA's SOP is BIG on the agenda.

And that influx of instability in the ME is a DIRECT result of the United States going ahead WITHOUT the consensus and support of the United Nations.

So who's the "rogue" nation that will come to mind at this conference I wonder . . .

hmmmmm :freak:
