Pinellas Circuit Court Judge Blocks Removal of Schiavo's Feeding Tube

PINELLAS PARK, FL (AP) -- Pinellas Circuit Court's chief judge has blocked the removal of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube because the case's presiding judge can't be located to deal with congressional subpoenas. More details to come.

Anyone remember 1976ish Saturday Night Live's carol "Kill Gary Gilmore for Christmas"? Quite spending money on legalities and let her die!

8. Tom Delay of all people is on the idiot box making a statement
right now. He's calling those in favor of her tube removal barbarians and just named Boxer and Wyden. What a complete bastard he is, if he wasn't having legal troubles i highly doubt we'd be hearing from him.

Since she's obviously just there for some people's amusement, why don't they just hook her legs up to some electrodes and make her dance, while they're at it?

32. I think that would be as macabre as it gets
and I think it would also backfire on them in a way they can't even imagine, trotting out a brain dead woman who clearly couldn't answer any questions. But just her appearance on national live TV should be enough to convince most people of how absolutely craven these right wing assholes are. For her sake I hope it doesn't come to that, but if it does, I predict a shitstorm against the assholes who are trying to turn this into a theocracy.

20. with all the misery and social ills in the world
the "compassionate conservatives" choose this poor woman's plight to focus on? where is the calls for judicial intervention for the thousands of children in foster care? where are the speeches in congress about the millions of people who go to be hungry each night?

once more, the righteous and sanctimonious among us are seeking to impose their ideas and morals upon everyone, and insist that the government be able to control one's body and the decisions over it when they see it proper.

21. Will they really make this woman come to Washington DC
and appear before them? Honestly, I hope they do. It would be a shame for Terri's dignity, but I would love to see this televised. Wheel her in on a gurney, and let the country see what is really going on with her.

22. THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY.
Judge Greer was having problems with his cell phone and couldn't make the 1:15 "hearing."

It's kind of hilarious, actually. They couldn't locate Greer. But I think this upcoming "hearing" (teleconference) might address the constitutionality of what the wingnut Delay & Co. are trying to do.

25. these same GOP clowns just tried to cut medicaid funding for such care
where is the SCLM pointing out that if the GOP gets its way, anyone on medicaid facing such hospitalization as schiavo would surely have the plug pulled because of the costs alone.

35. Exactly
This is just another delaying tactic, and a waste of time that they should be using to work on some of the real problems we face today.

This gives their Wall Street CEO buddies more time to write a SS plan that will Totally Screw 98% of ALL Americans.

AND, Did you hear, they spent 11 HOURS yesterday, on the Baseball Steroids MSM Circus.

I'm just guessing, but I think that's more time than they spent in committee debating the Iraq War resolution. :nuke:

33. Delay, et. al. HYPOCRISY ALERT!!!!
Tell me, dear readers, where the fuck were Tom Delay, Bill Frist, and all of these other interfering idiots when that lovely young mother in TEXAS had, against her will, her infant child removed from life support as she shed bitter tears and BEGGED the courts to value life, and give the baby "more time to grow?"

See, the problem was that the kid was never going to get better (well, that's what the HOSPITAL said), and it COST TOO MUCH, the woman had no money, and the hospital did not want to foot the bill. Oh, and the little baby was BLACK, too--not that that should matter...should it? (I guess I have to put a note about "sarcasm" here, lest people who can't smell it at forty paces miss the snark).

It seems that parental desires only count if you voted for a Bush. I find this entire charade disgusting beyond any conceivable belief.

Welcome to Fascist America!!

34. How can you subpoena a woman who can't...
...understand that you've just handed her a subpoena?

Doesn't a subpoena have to be placed in the hands of the person, and doesn't the subpoena have to be read and understood by the person receiving it?

Please someone...tell me this is a cruel joke. These guys actually want Terri to be displayed on the Senate floor? What

What is the point of doing that? She can't respond or contribute anything?

What about that woman's dignity!! The US government is going to parade this woman--who is drooling, in a vegetative state and clearly not herself--around the Senate floor? I seriously feel ill. This is exploitation at its worst. It's certainly not honoring life.

This poor woman. Her entire condition is due to an eating disorder. Hasn't she suffered enough.

These people are pure, selfish evil.

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Rejecting requests from Republican leaders in Congress, a Florida judge on Friday refused to again delay permission to remove the feeding tube keeping alive Terri Schiavo, a brain-damaged woman at the center of a battle
Courts had previously cleared the way for Schiavo's husband to remove her feeding tube as early as 1 p.m. ET Friday. The tube has been removed twice in the past and then reinserted as the battle continued.
