Romney Tells Off-Color Jokes at Roast
BOSTON -- Gov. Mitt Romney traded off-color barbs with fellow politicians at a roast Sunday, even throwing his Mormon heritage into a one-liner about gay marriage, which he opposes.

"I have to admit that as a Mormon, I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman ... and a woman and a woman," he said.

The legalization of gay marriage here was among the fodder for the popular St. Patrick's Day breakfast in South Boston. Romney's out-of-state travels and rumored 2008 presidential aspirations also provided gags.

House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi asked Romney if he'd had trouble finding his way from the airport.

"Are those tickets in your pocket?" DiMasi asked. "I don't want to keep you too long. You can leave any time you want."

Romney responded: "I'll be here 'til you get funny."

2. Yup. He's an asshole
More objectification of women as well. I must've missed the memo that said lesbians exist only to get men's jollies off :eyes:
Fuck you Romney. Fuck you.

5. i think you misread the quote...it's about polygamy, not lesbianism
he wasn't saying marriage is for a man and a woman, and also for a woman and a woman...He was saying "as a mormon" that marriage is for a man and a woman...and another woman, and another woman...in other words- a man with 3 wives.

16. Problem is, unless he's part of the outlaw cult that branched off
from LDS, he's not supposed to believe in that either. Unless the real agenda of the LDS is to push to get polygamy legalized, and they are just playing games at their supposed attempts to outlaw it. Would LDS leaders lie to the American public?

30. Funny. I always got the impression that it was some kind of
blasphemy for a Mormon to joke about his religion.

3. Romney acts like a spoiled brat a lot of the time.
At least that's the impression he leaves from his public appearances and remarks.

Shouldn't someone at least reach puberty before he/she holds public office?

6. Hi, deadparrot. This is off-topic but would you accept --
-- praise for your selection of signature quotes? Isn't that from "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelus" ?

Just wanted to say you chose a brilliant signature quote & I was lifted to see it.

Yep, you're right, it's from "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas." I loved the quote as soon as I read it in my literature class. Wonderful liberal read, IMO.

10. Hi, MrSlayer. My gripe with Mitt is more a blanket gripe --
-- his general tendency to abbreviate and sloganeer -- even more than a lot of politicians.

The roast itself just prompts the association, not the individual joke per se.

No fan of Republicans generally, I surely do get strongly homesick for Lowell Weicker. I don't think Mitt Romney can polish Weicker's boots.

12. Hello back. I understand your point.
I'm sure the guy is an ass to the nth degree, I have no real knowledge of him. I just thought that crushing him over a one liner was a bit overboard. Bash him for things that matter.

At least he was making fun of himself, not insulting the Dems. A few of his one-liners had a pretty cool reception, though.

For the rest, I agree with Old Crusoe's appreciation of the man.

Scroll down to "Politics, Humor on Menu At Annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration".

This is typical Boston politiking by a bunch of immature hacks.

Neither of our Senators attended.

19. The joke just didn't seem funny to me.
I guess if these politicians like to spout off about the sanctity of marriage all the time, they shouldn't make jokes about it. From someone else, it may have seemed funnier.

22. He has "ambitions"
...but you will be CNO before he becomes president.

Best he will be able to manage is the numbah two spot with Frist...a little South/North action. And that's only if all goes well.

I cannot remember a more HATED governor in the Commonwealth. By comparison, Cellucci was a friken care bear!
