RAAF Hercules comes under fire in Baghdad (SAM)

A ROYAL Australian Air Force Hercules was forced to take evasive action when a missile was fired at it over Baghdad.

The incident occurred on March 9, just a few months after the crash of a British Hercules killed 10 men, including Australian Paul Pardoel.

The British Ministry of Defence confirmed last week the British Hercules had been shot down by insurgents, but was unable to say what type of missile was used.

The Australian Hercules is believed to have fired chaff and flares after receiving a "lock-on" signal from a surface-to-air missile system close to Baghdad.

5. As much as I don't like the US Army, I doubt you are right..

If you think it was an accident, why the hell do the US would have armed SAM's when the rebels don't have anything in the air?

If you think that they did it on purpose, well, you should probably have a hint of a reason to explain WHY they would do it..

It is much, much more likely that the rebels did it. And I just wonder why it hasn't happened more. I don't think it is that difficult to shoot down an airplane during take-off or landing.

7. The Russian invasion of Afghanistan was a success, until the

insurgents got modern SAM capability. Then it got bad for them, real quick.
