(BAGHDAD, Iraq) -- Dozens of insurgents attacked a U.S. convoy with gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades, sparking a clash that saw U.S. troops kill 26 militants, one of the largest fights since Iraq's Jan. 30 election.

Some 40 rebels hit the military police and artillery units from the Kentucky National Guard late Sunday as the Americans traveled along a road 20 miles southeast of Baghdad that has seen a recent uptick in violence, the military said in a detailed account Monday.

Six soldiers and seven militants were wounded, and one person was arrested.

After the attack, troops recovered six rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 16 rockets, 13 machine guns, 22 assault weapons, more than 2,900 rounds of ammunition and 40 hand grenades from the insurgents.

1. looked at from a different perspective, these "insurgents" might . . .
be called patriots . . . that's what they'd be if the US were occupied by a foreign power and "insurgents" decided to fight the occupiers . . .

2. Call them by the more accurate term: resistance
And sad to see our local KY National Guard troops being put in this situation. My daughter's b/f just signed up (was told he wouldn't have to go overseas....yeah right)

3. It all depends on your point of view.
My reply to those who attack my anti-invasion stand with "but isn't Iraq better off without S.H.?" is I think that this country would be much better off without bush, but if another country invaded because of bush even I would probably take up arms against them.

4. Insurgents or guerrillas or bystanders?
All we know is that a bunch of non-Americans were killed. We don't even know if they were armed, let alone what to call them.

Lying has gotten so out of hand lately.

We haven't heard much about the Italian journalist's car lately, which was supposed to be shipped to Italy as evidence. Or anything else.

10. You know you live in an Orwellian world when the people who fight
the invading and occupying army are called terrorists and the invaders are called the good guys. So suck it up world -- you're supposed to be thankful when we invade and bomb and destroy your country -- and if you dare resist -- why you're the 'bad guys' and the 'terrorists'. Imagine an alien visiting our world and witnessing this. Maybe it will give them the idea that we'd like to be invaded and occupied by them.

16. Anyone not in a US military uniform
is an insurgent. You know like for some hunters during deer hunting season, anything with 4 legs is a deer.

19. I would assume that they consider anyone within a 20 foot radius of
that person to be insurgents as well. It's damn near impossible to pick off someone who's shooting at you in a crowd of people without killing inncoent people. That was the point of my post.

20. Remember that "insurgents" actually means regular citizens.
Don't forget it.
