Suit Filed To Protect Gay Benefits

A lawsuit was filed Monday in Detroit aimed at blocking attempts to use Michigan's ban on gay marriage from being used to deny benefits to same-sex partners.

The suit, filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, asks the court to declare that the amendment passed by voters last November, does not prohibit domestic partnership benefits offered by public employers.

Last week, Michigan's attorney general issued a legal opinion saying cities and other government entities won't be able to provide benefits for same-sex partners of employees in future contracts because it would violate the terms of the amendment. (story)

that besides the usefulness of the hatred wing nuts are able use as a wedge issue, that the other true reason for gay bashing was so that they wouldn't have to pay more benefits, both SS and corporate bennies.

Who knows, they are attempting to end SS, some state governments are cutting back on benefits, and private company benefits are all but non existent, so maybe when they have finally removed all benefits from workers & tax payers they'll let up on gay bashing.:shrug:

They won't be happy until:

- Homosexual sex is illegal and punishable by imprisonment
- Gays and lesbians are prohibited from having any contact with children, including their own
- Children receive no other message other than "homosexuality == evil"
- It is illegal to broadcast, write about, or otherwise disseminate any opinion other than that homosexuality is wrong and evil
- People are free to discriminate against gays and lesbians
- The DSM-IV reclassifies homosexuality as a pathological mental illness
- Gays and lesbians can be incarcerated (or involuntarily committed to a mental institution) simply for saying they're such

Ideally, they want us dead. Just ask "Reverend" Phelps.

and make it harder to prosecute the criminal stuff you mentioned. They don't want it to be illness, simply our choice that we want to maintain this "sinful lifestyle". They're not going to go back to calling us crazy - burning at the stake I could see first...

Under their regime, we'd go back to the days of Bedlam -- with lobotomies and the like being the only 'treatment'.

Remember, there's a reason why mental health insurance coverage is so utterly pitiful when compared to the other kind. There's an inherent assumption that the mentally ill are somehow responsible for being that way.

The stake-burnings would only come after the re-feudalization of America was complete. That way we could be accused of well-poisonings and causing mutant cow births with impunity.

I agree with you on the wing nut aspect of it. I hear the venom & lies that they spew, including Phelps & his crew in Kansas. I do realize how they use GLBT as a call to arms to the sheeple, but I also know that the truest motivating factor for those in power is greed.
My brother, is a gay, wealthy, corporate whore, conservative repub, without an ounce of compassion nor conscience. There is with some of the wingers a total economic Darwinism that drives them more than any other issue.

The relationship of both of these groups is rather symbiotic, at this time. Those in power motivated by greed currently need & use the hate of the wingnuts. The wingnuts need & use the power & greed of the corporate whores to spread their message of fear & hate.
