WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - John Taylor, the Treasury undersecretary for international affairs, is resigning his post April 22, according to a letter sent to President George W. Bush.

<snip>

Taylor said he was pleased to be part of Bush's first presidential campaign, during which he developed policies including tax cuts. He also reflected on his international service in the letter to Bush, noting his involvement in reforming the world monetary system.

But most of all, Taylor said, he was pleased to be part of Bush's fight against terrorism. He said he is proud of accomplishments including freezing terrorist assets following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the reconstruction of Afghanistan, and of the agreement to reduce Iraqi debt.

Taylor was the Roberts Professor of Economics at Stanford University, and has taught at Princeton and Columbia. Taylor is best known in the profession for his invention of the "Taylor Rule" on monetary policy, which determines the optimal level for short-term interest rates based on the unemployment rate and the rate of inflation.

3. He's a true Republican
He's proud of things that never happened (e.g. reconstruction of Afghanistan), of things he didn't do (Iraqi debt was Baker's doing), and of things involving violating somebody else's rights (freezing "terrorist" assets).

And exactly how is the world monetary system reformed? Other than greasing the skids on the hell-bound handbasket...

9. The world monetary system is reforming
But not in a way that will be good for the U.S.

The reform that's taking place is the Euro replacing the dollar as the world's primary currency.

8. Or maybe Arthur Anderson, the accountants who cooked the books
for Enron. Did they do time? Maybe they're up for parole soon.
