Religious groups rally, pray for Schiavo
snip>
Behind an orange hurricane fence hung with dead and dying roses, votive candles burn on a table adorned with a picture of the Virgin Mary. As cameras roll, people wave signs that read, "Plz don't give up on what God gave you", "God's Law Will Prevail" and "Thou Shalt not Kill."

Franciscan friars in black robes tied with white ropes mill about, escorting Schiavo's parents and siblings between the news media throng and a makeshift headquarters across from the hospice. Several protesters sport black ribbons around their upper arms, signifying that they are fasting in solidarity with Schiavo.
...
Before that ruling, during a Tuesday afternoon prayer session, the Rev. Sam Greene, a Baptist minister from Palm Bay, said: "I think this is a time for the church to literally bombard the throne of grace."
...
"Those of us in faith have been missing in action," Daubenmire says. "How come Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson aren't laying in front of that door over there? If they really believe a woman is being murdered, where is the church?"

1. They use Thou Shalt Not Kill as their creed?
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 01:13 PM by Mari333
Where were they when we destroyed Fallujah, and murdered thousands of civilians for nothing? Where were they then? I guess Thou Shalt Not kill only applies to christian, white people and everyone else be damned.
Hypocrites. They are the anti christ.
edit to add: I see the pastor making those statements is from Morris Ill..I used to live there and its a nauseating town, its main source of jobs is a petrochemical plant and Morris has the highest levels of benzene in the state of Ill..horrible town, and I thank God every day I got out of there. Hastert is from an adjoining town.

What exactly are they praying for? Sounds like she was a fine, upstanding woman. Christians should have no fear that she's going to heaven. Fear not.

Kids handcuffed in Schiavo protest
-------------------------------
From correspondents in Pinellas Park, Florida
-------------------------------
24mar05
-------------------------------
POLICE today handcuffed and led away three children and seven adults who tried to take water into the hospice where brain-damaged Terri Schiavo is being cared for.

(snip)

The demonstrators, who were carrying cups of water, refused to move off the property of the Woodside hospice in Pinellas Park, Florida, and were led away one-by-one by police, handcuffed and put in a police van.

(snip)

One 14-year-old girl and two brothers aged 12 and 10 were among the 10 people taken away by police.

"I am proud of them," said the boys' mother Geilen Keys from Texas. "They are very mature and they said 'we want to go and offer some water to Terri'."

Another woman was arrested for staging a similar protest yesterday.

16. CNN discussed these protests earlier...
CNN said that these protests were "highly choreographed" and "scripted."

These "protests" were prearranged with the police. According to CNN, the police informed these "protesters" what would happen to them (arrested), and the protesters agreed that they would go peacefully.

This is a fabricated, symbolic side show, designed to drum up publicity.

They're using children to cull more sympathy.

Do these people realize how ridiculous they look?

43. Reminds me of my mother
They are saying because she doesn't drool, that she can swallow. So she doesn't even need to be on a feeding tube. They don't even know that swallowing saliva is an involuntary reflex and eating or drinking are from different parts of the brain.
My mother was not able to swallow liquid or any food for about 4 days before she passed on. But she swallowed her saliva till the end.
I am getting flash backs of my mother's death and how peaceful it was. Hospice was there and helped swab her mouth to keep her comfortable. They were so wonderful, they are the real angels.

... and then interviewed the children AFTER they saw her and witnessed her condition, and could honestly testify to the fact that 'there's nobody home'; rather than arresting them beforehand with their erroneous mythology left intact.

Pat Robertson's Quest for Eternal Life

He's making bets to ensure that his evangelical empire outlasts him. His portfolio so far: a gold mine in Liberia, a mothballed oil refinery, and $78 million in losses.

Jesus mania swept Liberia. For eight nights last December the nation's TV channels--both of them--simultaneously showed programs created by Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network. There was the Prodigal Son parable told from a Nigerian point of view; animated Bible episodes; stories about people who said they'd had out-of-body experiences and come face to face with the Almighty; and the true tale of a Mexican family who stayed together thanks to God. For two nights the stations simply broadcast testimonials from Liberians detailing Jesus' role in their lives. Those without televisions (the vast majority of the country) could catch the same fare at local "video clubs"--converted storefronts where people paid the equivalent of a few pennies to gather around a TV and VCR.

That was just the buildup. In February, at a national three-day prayer-and-fast rally partially funded by Robertson, Liberia's President--a U.S. prison escapee who, according to Human Rights Watch, has run "the whole gamut of human rights abuses"--declared he had seen the light. "We in Liberia recognize that there is a higher authority," said Charles Taylor, decked out in a short-sleeved white suit and standing on a red-carpeted stage at the center of the Samuel K. Doe stadium in Monrovia. "I am not your President. Jesus is!" He instructed the estimated 65,000 people in the crowd to prostrate themselves and join in a song that he would lead despite his position--face down on the carpet. As the rally ended, Taylor presented a ceremonial plate to an American preacher named John Gimenez who had helped organize the event. "Thank you," Taylor said. "Tell Pat Robertson, and please present this to him as a token of our appreciation."

About 190 miles away, in a densely forested region of Liberia called Bukon Jedeh, Robertson's employees were busy working on a much more valuable token of Taylor's appreciation. There a crew of 35 Liberians were digging deep holes into the red, claylike soil on a plot of land contracted out to Robertson. Their goal was to uncover the spot, beneath the gravel and laterite, that they believed held five million ounces of the stuff that the Book of Revelation says lines the streets of heaven: pure gold. Gold that if sold on the open market could reap about $1.5 billion.

39. Stuff like this has been going on for years
at clinics providing abortions. We have a guy out in front of Planned Parenthood with a baby stroller, some dubious pics of dead fetuses, and he croons "Mommy, Mommy don't kill me" then picks up his bullhorn and berates any woman trying to go into the clinic. One passer-by had enough and asked the guy if he knew "How do you make a nun pregnant? Dress her like an altar boy." I thought the guy would have a heart attack on the spot.
