Iraqi resistance fighters stepped up their attacks on Thursday against Iraqi security forces and U.S. troops, targeting Americans with roadside bombs in the north and attacking Iraq 's nascent army in Baghdad.

Two bombs planted in the streets of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul exploded near U.S. patrols, witnesses said.

First blast occurred near a Mosul school, said Khairy Ilham, a shopkeeper who witnessed the blast.

The U.S. military wasn’t available to comment on the attack.

In the Iraqi capital, armed men opened fire on an army truck carrying Iraqi soldiers in an eastern neighborhood. 12 troop members were injured in the attack, police Maj. Mousa Hussein said.

2. Just like Nam... Body count rises daily...
But the U.S. army refused to confirm the death toll announced by the Iraqi government.

The raid at Lake Tharthar in central Iraq turned up booby-trapped cars, weapons and training documents, said Iraqi Maj. Gen. Rashid Feleih, adding that the rebels included Iraqis, Filipinos, Algerians, Moroccans, Afghans and Arabs from neighboring countries.

According to Iraqi and U.S. officials' accounts, Iraqi and U.S. troops killed about 128 rebels in three days.

3. Disappointed that we weren't treated to a "25,000 insurgents
killed, 2 US wounded" Vietnam style body count on this one, like all the other ones lately.

6. feeling a bit drafty in here....
No way we can continue to lose people at this rate and maintain Georgie's "war prez" standings... after all - the neos want to invade another country as a diversion for the sheeple. Just like Iraq was a diversion from the clusterfuck of afghanistan and letting Osama Bin Forgotten get away.
