Nuclear agency chided for hiring illegal aliens as contractors

Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., Thursday slammed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for allowing illegal aliens who obtained documentation by using fake Social Security numbers to work as contract painters at nuclear facilities.

"Commission regulations are supposed to ensure that the individuals who are able to access nuclear facilities are subject to appropriate background and security checks, but they clearly did not work in this case," Markey, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, said in a statement.

In a letter to the commission, he called on the NRC to provide information about its investigation into the issue and details on its documentation and verification requirements.


An NRC spokesman said the agency regards the breach "as a serious matter."

Just imagine for a moment if the President who had fucked around with national security for over thee years after the horror of September 11th had been President Clinton. Try to think about the reaction to his solution for "protecting" us -- invading a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with 9/11 (despite repeated, exposed lies to the contrary). Imagine the spending of $300 BILLION on a trumped up, phony war and ooccupation - while at the same time relentlessly pushing a plan to revamp (end) Social Security - because we're going broke from the war. How would his incompetence be received by the media, the oppostion party and the public?

I can picture televisions across the nation exploding from the level of hysteria on all the cable shows, featuring GOP spinners in various states of outrage, faux concern for our democracy and calls for President Clinton's resignation.

This current scenario of not daring to critcize Bush is so timid, gutless and ruthless that I don't know if I have any faith left in my country.
