USWA locals help their 'brothers and sisters' (Ormet / OH )
By MICHAEL SCHULER, Times Leader Staff Writer

WORKERS FROM two Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel plants and the House of the Carpenter are lending a helping hand by providing food to striking Ormet workers.

On Wednesday, 16,889 pounds of food were delivered from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank to the United Steelworkers of America Local 5724 Union Hall in Clarington, benefitting workers from USWA locals 5724 and 5760.
USWA Local 1238 members from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel facilities in Martins Ferry and Beach Bottom held "gate" collections, raising money to purchase the food.

"We believe our union is at its best when brother and sister help brother and sister," said Local 1238 President Johnny Waugh. "When we were on strike before people came out and helped us and we just want to give something back. And we'll be with them until this is over." <snip>
