Senate set to vote on abortion clinic bill (Kansas)
TOPEKA - A sharply divided Senate gave tentative approval Thursday to a bill that would impose numerous regulations on abortion clinics.....

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius vetoed a virtually identical bill two years ago.
Senators advanced the bill to a final vote today. They rejected, 20-19, an amendment aimed at regulating all outpatient surgery centers.
...
Sen. David Haley, a Kansas City Democrat, said the bill should not be seen "as anything but an attempt to put a chilling effect on the constitutional right of women to make their own health care decisions."

Sebelius said recently that she would support stronger standards for outpatient surgery, including abortion, but "it needs to be across the board."

Sen. Pete Brungardt, a Salina Republican, sought that across-the-board regulation with his proposed amendment.

A crisis in abortion clinics, he said, "has not been proven, has not been shown." He said risks associated with abortion are no greater than many other surgical procedure.

1. I wonder if THIS is what is behind the KS AG's fishing
expedition into records at two clinics....

The bill - controversy around whether the regulations are for all outpatient clinics or abortion clinics. Gov says - needs to be across the board - and the repub sponsor of an amendment to seek cross the board regulation (of outpatient) states that there has been no proven crises in abortion clinics (that would merit singling out for said regulations.)

So is the AG looking for info he can use to point to a "crisis"?

3. That could be part of it. But he's also an outspoken foe of abortion,
especially late-term abortion, and would love to see it outlawed. He has targeted a clinic that women from many states travel to for late-term abortions. No doubt he's hoping to find violations there.

as well.

2. Regulation? Regulation or jumping through hoops is what I wonder.

7. If it's regulation that isn't applied to other medical clinics
it looks like a hoop to me -based on that alone.

4. This is another Bullshit Bill.
The Repukes are again capitalizing on a "crisis" at one clinic (disposal of waste) and using it for their "pro-life" political gain.

Slime!

6. There's only 2 clinics in Kansas
At least that's all I could find when I was researching on the AG story. These people just can't stand that all their laws haven't stopped abortion, not even late term abortion. They are medically necessary and their laws actually prove that fact, despite what they said to get them enacted.
