Grassley has doubts on Social Security effort

DES MOINES, Iowa

Senator Charles Grassley says the odds are against Congress approving a proposal to revamp Social Security that's being pushed by President Bush. <snip>

In an interview with the Associated Press today, he says it's "very difficult" for him to say that a bill will be presented to the president.

Grassley is chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, which has oversight of the issue. He intends to bring it before his committee this summer. <snip>

Grassley has not offered a specific proposal, but says he wants all aspects of the system on the bargaining table, including increasing the payroll taxes that finance the system.
