NRA Says Teachers Should Have Guns
PHOENIX -- All options should be considered to prevent rampages like the Minnesota school shooting that took 10 lives -- including making guns available to teachers, a top National Rifle Association leader said Friday.

"I'm not saying that that means every teacher should have a gun or not, but what I am saying is we need to look at all the options at what will truly protect the students," the NRA's first vice president, Sandra S. Froman, told The Associated Press.

Gun-control restrictions would not have prevented Jeff Weise, 16, from killing nine people and himself Monday at Red Lake High School near Bemidji, Minn., said Froman, an attorney expected next month to be elected president of the NRA, which claims 4 million members.
...
Froman said if it is the responsibility of teachers to protect students in a school, "then we as a society, we as a community have to provide a way for the teachers to do that."

I'm sorry. The only way you could make the security situation in most public high schools WORSE than it is now would be to arm the teachers. Jesus Christ! The principals would have to go around in Kevlar bodysuits!

The NRA. Jesus Christ. When are their 15 minutes gonna be up? It cannot be too soon.

Argh,

39. Well, I'm a teacher and
Plaid Adder has a valid point.

The public has no idea (and to their credit, they have no way of knowing since they're not personally involved) of the downright harassment many teachers must endure because of their principals. (The degree varies from state to state, but it is definitely a problem.) I know that sounds crazy, but it is the truth.

Oh, and teachers should not have guns for the same reason they should not carry much money with them at work... it can be stolen.

7. No guns in school
I'm pretty pro-gun and generally agree with the NRA most of the time. But the only people that should have guns in schools are security personell, and even then only as needed.

But teachers who get a lot of death threats from parents or "concerned citizens" may want to consider arming themselves off campus.

Who's going to arm, and train, buy ammo for, and maintain training for millions of teachers nationwide?

"All options should be considered..." indeed!

How about finding ways to help the outcasts before they snap?

Sure, an appropriately prepared professional may (try to) shoot an outcast after he snaps (but before he shoots someone).

But that's a pretty high-drama option, out of ALL THE OPTIONS that we should consider, no?

60. great NRA idea....
It has to be so easy to be an NRA spokeperson. All you need to parrot is that the answer to all problems with guns is simply to introduce more guns.

It's a little like the neonut elixir for all that ailes our economy: huge tax cuts for the wealthy. Inflation? Tax cuts. Recession? Tax cuts. Surplus? Tax cuts. Kidney stones? Tax cuts.

And what is their answer to the crushing debt their tax cuts have created? You guessed it.

62. The things people will say and do...
when they've given themselves up entirely to the pursuit of money, with a total disregard for human life.

And just in case arm the principal with a Bazooka? just when you think those fruitcakes have done it, they outdo themselves

67. The NRA is doing harm to the gun rights movement with this extremist BS.
This would be crazy. Where would a Junior High School teacher *store* a gun? Those kids are wiley and guns *will* be stolen.

68. I can just see it now...
A teacher sitting behind their desk. On the desk, a pile of schoolbooks, with a shiny apple on top. Next to the pile of books is a six-shooter with a caption that reads "I'm a teacher and the only Law west of the principal's office!" What a stupid idea!!!!
