SARS may spread in air, new studies warn

TORONTO (AFP) - New research suggests the SARS (news - web sites) virus, which killed 800 people after emerging in China in 2003, may spread through the air, and not just through human contact, making it more dangerous than previously thought.

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome virus was discovered in the air in a patient's room in Toronto, according to a Canadian study published in the new edition of the US-based Journal of Infectious Diseases.

1. I just saw a report on that on Canadian news...
The gist is, yes, it can spread through air, but in such minute quantities that the odds of catching it that way, as opposed to physical contact, are very low. However, in a hospital, very low can still be a danger to the nurses and doctors. So, certainly, the virus is 'more dangerous' as a whole but, not nearly as dangerous when there is no physical contact.
