Four US troops killed in mine blast in southeast Afghanistan
Four US troops have been killed in a mine blast in the southeastern Afghan province of Logar, the US military said.

"Four US troops were killed in action but we have no indication that this was a new mine or an IED (improvised explosive device)," US military spokeswoman Cindy Moore told AFP.

She said the bodies of the US troops had already been evacuated from the area and an investigation was ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion, which occurred 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of the capital Kabul.

The blast could have been the result of unexploded ordnance as Afghanistan (news - web sites) is littered with old mines after a quarter century of war.

12. My thoughts, too.
Didn't see your post before I posted.

We can only hope it's not a precursor of things to come.

Tears fall for the world and all whose lives have been shattered by this ongoing insanity.

13. I think we'll see a push this year.
There has been a steady trickle of events the last few weeks
and I expect April and May will be the busy period. But time
makes fools of us all.

I'm worried about Iraq too.

4. To the families of those four people............
it won't make a bit of difference WHO'S ordnance is was. Add for more to the list of the giggling murder monkey's victims. Or won't they be counted as KIA because it's uncertain if it was enemy ordnance that blew up? That's probably it, they'll say they were "non-combat related". :eyes: Like I said, four more American families ruined whatever the cause.

8. RIP unnamed soldiers
the BFEE's "forgotten" war in Afghanistan.

The pipeline was approved and put in January 2002 - your deaths were a gain for the oil companies. :(

Build pipeline to Afghans' future

By Peter Schweizer

Now that the war in Afghanistan is essentially over, pulling off the country's reconstruction will not be easy. But, as Secretary of State Colin Powell has said, the USA has "an enormous obligation to not leave the Afghan people in a lurch."

One potential solution could give the United States an opportunity to help Afghanistan, help our friends and boost our own economy, all at the same time.

For two centuries, Afghanistan has been a victim of its geography, wrangled over by others because of its strategic location. Now, as the United States looks toward rebuilding Afghanistan, geography may prove to be the country's best asset.

North and west of Afghanistan are enormous oil and natural gas reserves in countries such as Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. The region's available but untapped energy resources are second only to those of the Middle East.

Production in this area now is about 1 million barrels a day. But daily production could rise to 3.4 million barrels or more by 2010 if a way is found to get the energy onto world markets.
