Brazil in best shape in years, IMF reports
Reuters News Service

WASHINGTON - The International Monetary Fund said Friday that Brazil's economy is enjoying the best financial market conditions the country has seen in years, but urged authorities to keep inflation in check.

The IMF said Brazil's prudent policies since the country's financial 2002 crisis spurred "a significant transformation of the economy," with notable improvements in income, employment, public debt and international reserve levels.

"Financial market conditions are currently the best in many years," the Washington-based lender said in an annual review of Brazil's economy, released days after it paid out a final $1.39 billion of a $42 billion loan deal with the country.

Over the medium term, the IMF urged Brazil to loosen its budget restrictions to make room for "priority programs," such as social spending aimed at reducing poverty, a key priority of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

1. I worry about that picture on the left...
it could be used by the neocons to convince the freepers that Lula is planning an invasion of the USA. :)

8. IMF also whined about Brazil's debt again.
But I expect that will be ignored.
