Bush decries school rampage; critics question delay
CRAWFORD, Texas, March 26 (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush broke his public silence on Saturday about the deadliest U.S. school shooting in six years, touting the government's response "at this tragic time" after some American Indian leaders complained he paid little attention to the rampage.

Bush's delayed public reaction to the shooting stood in contrast to his swift and high-profile intervention this week to prolong the life of Terri Schiavo, a brain-damaged woman in Florida whose feeding tube was removed.

Opinion polls show Bush's approval ratings have slipped to a new low and some pollsters say his intervention in the Schiavo controversy may have been a major factor.

Bush decried the "tragedy" in which a 16-year-old boy killed nine people and then himself on a Minnesota Indian reservation. Monday's rampage by Jeff Weise was the worst U.S. school shooting since 15 people died in the 1999 Columbine massacre.

2. I guess they have to have faster polls so our supreme idiot can
know which issue to make comments on and which to ignore.

These people are giving new meanings to the words "compassion" and "hypocrite".

9. but he still talks of cutlture of life in this article:

He made no direct mention of Schiavo, but said: "To keep our children safe and protected, we must continue to foster a culture that affirms life and provides love, and helps our young people build character." Bush was criticized for his initial reaction to the Dec. 26 tsunami in Asia when he pledged $15 million in U.S. government assistance. The U.S. government's pledge rose substantially after the enormity of the disaster became clear.

18. I remember Clinton getting on the TV while they were still
talking about Columbine on the TV in Colorado. I was pleasantly surprised my his quick action, even if I didn't agree with all he promoted afterwards.

7. Didn't he do the same thing with the Tsunami?
Bush doesn't speak out about anything unless it is about "christian values", until the omission is pointed out.

17. I am convinced he goes to Crawford and goes on a binge every time
takes him time to sober up long enough to appear before cameras. He emerged from Crawford to do the bill signing stunt, then goes back to Crawford. He is there this weekend and probably ready to go on another binge to celebrate Easter.

21. I think so, too.
Saw a photo once of them loading cases of "Texas Pride" onto AF-1. The story was that it was for the press corps. I would hope the Press had more respect for their taste buds than that.

I'll bet Dumbya was fully lit by the time AF-1 was handed off to Memphis ATC.

20. You mean somebody finally noticed how long it took him to get around
to expressing any public feelings about this? And when did this calamity occur? MONDAY? Actually - let me rephrase that. The calamity occurred in December 2000.

CRIMINY!!! This shithead can't get off his ass for ANY reason other than to meddle in some family's private anguish. Not ANY reason!!

He took his own sweet time after...

-receiving that Presidential Daily Brief on August 6, 2001, while on vacation. You know that one. The one that was titled something like "Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside the US"?

-poking his head out of his hidey hole on that dreadful day. News anchors were desperately calling "WHERE is the president?" while he was busy skeedaddling his chickenshit ass all over the Sunbelt, looking for a good hidey hole.

-coming to Ground Zero after 9/11 - it happened on a Tuesday. He didn't get his sorry ass up there til Friday. There were loads of other officials who were out there immediately, or very shortly thereafter. They obviously had time and concern.

-after the tsunami in South Asia on December 26th. When did we finally hear a peep out of him? Something like three or four DAYS before he said anything at all?

There's another one, recently, just before this, too. I forget. It's more of a challenge to keep track of (and on top of) the items that keep adding to this growing list.

-and now this one. The shootings happened on a Monday? And this is now SATURDAY and he's only NOW getting around to saying something? While he could get his miserable pathetic ass on Air Force One and interrupt his precious imperial vacation to fly back to Washington on a weekend to sign the Butt-in-ski Bill against Michael Schiavo.

WHEN DOES THIS END?!?!???!?!?

22. can we start a countdown to bush's last day in office, please?
we need a bright spot in DU to take away from "Mr. Rainy-Day President." bush is all about bad news, 24/7. he has done absolutely nothing positive for our nation, and even his most hard-core dyed-in-the-wool supporters are moping around hoping for some "good news." they try to put on a smile, but they hurry away...

25. These people weren't "white"
so they aren't worthy of his attention. He didn't make a statement until he heard the critics taking him to task for his silence.

They were beneath his notice. Bastard!!!!
