State workers spent >50 hours building Schwarzenegger campaign prop

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - State carpenters and painters spent more than 50 hours building an elaborate prop for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to use to promote his plan to curb state spending, a practice the head of a public watchdog group denounced as a waste of government resources.

Schwarzenegger appeared in front of a 25-foot model of the Capitol at the state fairgrounds in Sacramento last month to turn a spigot and shut off the flow of red ink he said symbolizes state spending.

"You're wasting government resources to highlight the waste of government resources," said Larry Noble, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics in Washington.

3. Crap like this is no different than the posters & statues put up by
totalitarian self-worshipping dictators throughout history and right up into the present time. Self-aggrandizing propaganda, quite apart from the egregious waste of it. Are the good people of California in some sort of hypnotic trance regarding their governor? Don't they see this?

4. This should have been done with campaign funds and the legislature
should go after these funds and punish the folks who pulled this.

7. Reminds me of the Chinese boxes that said
..."MADE IN USA" at a Chimp event!

Props are stupid, and they are usually employed to sell a load of shit to an unsuspecting public. If your words have real meaning and resonate with your constituency, all you need is a podium and a microphone.

10. And who got paid to come up with the idea in the first place?
You just know somebody is on a payroll to think of these nutty ways of demonstrating something which could be easily accomplished with a simple graph.

How about duct tape across Arnold's mouth to highlight the waste of even listening to Steroid-Man?

12. And look what we get on Tuesday!
Edited on Sun Mar-27-05 03:03 AM by xxqqqzme
Please immediately email the five Democrats on the 8-member Assembly Rules Committee. Urge them to vote NO on McPherson for CA Secretary of State. The vote is Tuesday. Monday is a holiday. You can USE THIS FORM to send them ALL your message with one click, right from this email!

McPherson wants to bring in a 70-million plus Arnold fundraiser and a Diebold law firm rep to reorganize California's elections. Shades of Florida, 2000. Ohio, 2004. Bad news. Fight back.

McPherson's transition team includes Adan Ortega, Jr. "an employee" of a firm (GCG Rose & Kindel) that represents Diebold Election Systems. It also includes Steve Merskamer, a Sacramento attorney whose firm represents Citizens to Save California, a 70-million Arnold fundraiser to put Schwartznegger's initiatives on the ballot, including that which will redistrict California to benefit the GOP.

Send your personal message to the five Democrats on the 8-member Assembly Rules Committee. Urge them to vote NO on McPherson for CA Secretary of State. The vote is Tuesday. Monday is a holiday
