Colorado Springs officials join in protest of anti-gay protesters
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - City officials have told a Kansas minister who leads anti-gay protests that he is not welcome.

When protesters from Westboro Baptist Church returned to Colorado Springs this week, to protest outside a downtown restaurant owned by a council member who defends gay rights they were given a letter from the city council telling them their message was unwelcome.

Two weeks ago the council had declined to act against the group but when the protesters began carrying signs saying God hates Colorado Springs, council members reconsidered. <snip>

2. Old Fred sure knows how to make friends wherever he goes
Somebody should have taken the opportunity to grill him about the Guckert story.

My guess is his dead silence on the subject comes from the fear that his name is in Guckert's client list.

4. Does anyone know where this crazy f#@k gets his money? Isn't
the "church" mostly family members? And if they are always traveling with him on the Rabid Riech Wing Roadshow, who's paying for the food, place to stay, etc?

16. from right-wing Foundations, for one
from: http://www.mediatransparency.org/search_results/info_on_any_recipient.php?116

for further exploration ... go to the above site, and click on, for example the Foundation name ... i.e., Bill and Berniece Grewcock Foundation, and, then, click on 'recipients by amount granted' to see what other organizations they have financed ... that great Journalism school, the Leadership Institute, has received $180,000 ... so, imo, they're just as guilty as the Bu$h White House and it's 'Gannon'-types in undermining our government and democracy ...

show below are just the Grants ....who knows what individuals have contributed ... of course, the way some individuals 'hide' their involvement is to contribute to these "Foundations", and the foundations make these Grants ... all under IRS regulations for tax exempt organizations, i.e., 501(c)(3).

5. Hmm... not impressed.
Two weeks ago the council had declined to act against the group but when the protesters began carrying signs saying God hates Colorado Springs, council members reconsidered.

Apparently "God Hates Fags" doesn't rouse their civic ire. "Hey, queers are one thing, but this is going too far!"

Fuck 'em. You can fry a repuke in butter, and he's still a repuke.

7. Not OK
that kind of speech is not welcome in my community," said Mayor Lionel Rivera said.

Exactly what kind of speech is approved by Mayor Lionel Rivera. I wasn't aware that the Mayor of a town was able to define what free speech is.....just sayin'

6. The last paragraph of the article...
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 05:38 PM by SalmonChantedEvening
Takes us deep into the realm of the surreal.

"The Kansas church plans to return to Colorado Springs at the end of April to picket outside the headquarters of Christian ministry Focus on the Family, which it accuses of being too liberal toward homosexuals."

Dobson's people liberal towards ANYTHING?? There are no words.

See 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as proof of this.

8. Could Phelps be arrested under the Patriot Act?
Had Kerry won he could have credibly used the powers of the Patriot Act to target Ann Coulter, conservative radio talk show hosts, Fred Phelps' hateful church, the AEI and the Heritage Foundation.

15. email the mayor
I just sent my thoughts about this to Lionel Rivera, the mayor of Colorado Springs. You might also want to tell him what you think about his sudden concern for hate speech: lrivera@springsgov.com
