Grandmother Pleads Guilty to Abusing Grandsons

I just don't know what to say here ....tragic....

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A woman frustrated because her grandsons couldn't speak English has admitted to fracturing the skulls of both boys, both under the age of 5.


Charlissa Sireech, 45, of Fort Duchesne, pleaded guilty Thursday to seven counts of assault against 4-year-old Jose and his brother, 3-year-old Emilio.

She faces up to 70 years in prison when sentenced June 30.

Sireech was accused of throwing the boys to the hardwood floor repeatedly and burning the younger boy with a curling iron last September. According to court documents, she was angry because the boys spoke Spanish and wouldn't do as they were told.

The boys and their 2-year-old sister, Mona, were taken from their paternal grandparents in California last August and placed by the Ute tribe in Sireech's home on the Uintah-Ouray Reservation. Three weeks after they arrived, the two boys were brought to a hospital, Jose in a coma and Emilio with a severe head injury. Mona was not physically harmed.

A working knowlege of Spanish might have been useful during her prison term.

Maybe some Latinas there will take offense to her offenses, and give her a taste of her own medicine.

(and domestic abuse too, which is yet another form of child abuse) affects all socioeconomic and political strata.

The woman here is a profoundly sick woman who herself is a product of the cycle abuse, has extremely poor to non-existent self-esteem and virtually non-existent impusle control. That's not meant as an excuse, but an explanation. It's also not intended to excuse her from being held accountable. It's meant as a waker-upper that society's problems aren't going to be solved MERELY by the threat of jail/prison and actually locking them up. The cycle of abuse has to be ended where it starts (continues): in the home.

Let's please not engage in too-facile, snarky, factually inaccurate "observations" about what is the "cause" of child abuse.

I'm picking my jaw up off the floor here. It never ceases to amaze me how evil people can me.
