Movement in the Pews Tries to Jolt Ohio -NYT
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Christian conservative leaders from scores of Ohio's fastest growing churches are mounting a campaign to win control of local government posts and Republican organizations, starting with the 2006 governor's race.

In a manifesto that is being circulated among church leaders and on the Internet, the group, which is called the Ohio Restoration Project, is planning to mobilize 2,000 evangelical, Baptist, Pentecostal and Roman Catholic leaders in a network of so-called Patriot Pastors to register half a million new voters, enlist activists, train candidates and endorse conservative causes in the next year.
...
Republican officials are watching warily. The chairman of the state party, Robert T. Bennett, warned that the decade-long dominance of his party could be jeopardized if it was pushed too far to the right. "This is a party of a big tent," Mr. Bennett said. "The far right cannot elect somebody by itself, any more than somebody from the far left can."

The conservatives point to the governor's race as an example of what they consider wrong with the state Republican Party. Of the three Republican candidates, only Mr. Blackwell has the solid support of religious conservatives. Jim Petro, the attorney general, opposed the same-sex marriage amendment on the grounds that it would invite litigation against companies that provided domestic partner benefits. Betty D. Montgomery, the state auditor, has supported some abortion rights.

2. It looks like we have a lot of work to do
We both need to make sure our local races have dems running for all positions. Then we need to campaign for them.

4. I recommend
campaigning against the whackos instead. Start collecting extreme statements that these folks have made, etc, then run negative ads/flyers/direct-mail painting them as scary nutballs.

18. Just FYI Larry started Hustler
and was caught up for many years in court battles over both obscenity and libel for an ad parady of Jerry Falwell.

He also was shot outside of a courthouse for his beliefs - and is in a wheelchair to this day.

7. Wasted Effort .
Ohio is already the Mississippi of the North. Blackwell's going to win anyway.

All the rednecks and white trash that make up 95% of the Buckeye Confederacy have been pissing and moaning about how bad everything is, but on election day they're still going to punch that (R) ticket yet again and then spend another four years pissing and moaning about how bad everything is.

9. Blackwell, the election theft overseer
is the only one who has the "solid support of Christian Conservatives". That tells me pretty much all I need to know about so called "Christian Conservatives". Actually I think I already know more than I need to know about them but the fact that he has their support tells me there's no doubt he's a crook. What a bunch of hypocrites.

11. No - Wait!! This is a CHANCE OF A LIFETIME!!!
I propose something radical that will DESTROY conservativism once and for all - and the beauty of it all is that it will come from their OWN PLAYBOOK.

I propose that each and every Democrat and Independent BOYCOTT any election where one of these candidates is running. That's right. I propose that no Democrat or Independent candidate come forward to oppose one of these candidates and I propose that no Democrat or Independent vote in the election. In other words ALL Democrats and ALL Independents should stand aside and let these people take power. Let them have what they want. Let them WIN.

The Conservatives' favorite book is Atlas Shrugged, wherein all the planet's entrepreneurs, tired of the snivling parasites who denigrate Capitalism, quietly go on "strike" - disappearing into a private Eden of their own. In this rich, Conservative fantasy, all the people who criticized the wonders of Capitalism finally get their wish: All the capitalists disappear. But unlike the Proletarian paradise they expect, those who have rid themselves of the nation's elite find their world quickly descending into barbarism and chaos. Meanwhile, within the blessed enclave of Conservative Capitalists, God's chosen quietly bask in their shining City on the Hill.

OK, fine. These theocratic fascists do nothing but bad-mouth liberals and find fault with our patriotism and denigrate us to no end. So, I say, let's give them THEIR paradise: a world without Democrats or Independents; only a world in which they have a say and in which they have power.

Yes, it will be tough to endure the dictatorship of theocrats, but I am fairly sure that we won't have to wait long before their paradise collapses. Not only will they be unable to adapt "God's Law" to land disputes, copyright, interstate commerce and all the secular aspects of government, they will rip themselves apart over just what God meant when He said this or that, or what His will should be. Their Eden will collapse as all theocracies have: in blind, pitiless rage at one another. The state's economy will tank as multi-national corporations - persecuted for how their home countries misinterpret Scripture - will pack up and leave. Laws that forbid exports to "infidels" will further wreck the economy. Democrats and Independents could move temporarily into other states, whittling down the tax base and denying them the funds they need.

No one will be able to blame the Democrats or Independents for this mess - the Conservatives will have had their chance and they will have destroyed themselves.

Yes, it will be painful for those who choose to stay. But their time of pain will be much more brief than would the long drawn-out process of conquest they are now planning for us. Yet if we sacrifice this one time, we will provide the nation and its electorate with a beautiful object lesson in what Conservatives really intend. With this ONE example of how quickly and how badly a theocratic state would be, we will be RID OF CONSERVATIVISM for EVER.

15.  see the concept.. but to me its like letting your kid touch the socket..
..so they will learn, but it might kill the child. We have nukes (and dont think they wont use them.. in OUR names) and we cant just LET them rule over us (um.. freedom), cause they gladly will, and they will NEVER relinquish power... If we cant remove these criminals from power by '08, we will have a revolt on our hands. I am not quietly going to sit by and watch the formation of the 4th reich! Watch these crooks raid our national treasury.. worse than just taking what we had... they borrowed trillions already.. IN OUR NAMES... and took the cash! We going to have to pay alot of that back. Sadly, the reality of what we must do is the opposite of do nothing.. and it is the harder path.. WE must all rise up and be heard, and we are. We must say a quick prayer for the death of the 4th estate (the MSM) and get busy spreading our words of truth and common sense(not to mention common decency)! BE the media... I've been on Ed schultz twice now... imagine if 100's of us called radio daily, with stories that the people need to hear, like the election was rigged, NEVER stop saying that!

Heres a few idea and places to go too..

19. Ohio is already run by right-wing wackos
and has been for some time.

We are already reaping the fruits of their incompetent mismanagement, and have been for some time.

The problem is: the sheeple aren't perceptive enough to grasp the connection between their dismal economic status and the actions (or inactions) of their revered right-wing wacko heroes.

Short of a miraculous infusion of intelligence in the general populace, I don't see our plight changing any time soon ... unless someone charismatic with strong name recognition comes along. Say, someone like Martin Sheen. (Hey, I can hope can't I?) :)

20. Only christians have rights now in the new Amerikan Republik
When will the public realize that there is NO difference between different forms of totalitarian government. It is ONLY a FREE Democracy or Democratic Republic that protevts ALL of the population. As an ordained Interfaith (non-christian) minister I live in fear of my right to freedom of religion being taken away by those who think that their beliefs are the only ones that are valid and need protection. WAKE UP and VOTE. VOTE AGAINST any and all incumbents regardless of party and do it again and again until the elected officials start to LISTEN to the people and the CONSTITUTION.
This country was once great and free but now we are a bunch of puppets believing what we are told to believe and doing what we are told to do. The Patriot ACT is DANGEROUS and UNCONSTITUTIONAL. If we are willing to sacrifice our freedom for security then we deserve neither freedom nor security and will have neither!

21. Sounds like a Dominionist plot to me...
I'd like to say more, but I don't want to be responsible for driving thin-skinned Church People away from the Democratic Party...

Ahhhhhhhh...Whatdafuck?

I'm getting sick of the "WAAAAAH! WAAAAH! I'm being PERSECUTED just like Jeebus" threads. I'll tell you what, I think it's an organized plot to try and silence the non-christian Left.

I've been accused of driving people away from *OUR* "Big Tent Party", of being an "Elitist", of being just plain snotty, and all the while this goes on, you have these fucking groups like the "Ohio Restoration Project" marching on with their Master Plan of "Every Knee shall Bend, Every Head shall Bow". You wanna go like fucking Sheep, fine. Not. Me.

If I rattle some of you go-church-on-Sunday-forget-about-the-rest-of-the-week crowd out of your comfort zone sounding the Alarm, too bad.

You know how to use the "ignore" function?

22. Even Neil Boortz is getting worried...
If you mention that Randall Terry, the Schindler's chief spokesman, has repeatedly called for Christians to conquer America for God and to turn it into a Christian theocracy, you're Christian bashing.

If you tell a woman standing outside of the hospice with a sign that says "rehabilitate Terri," that Terri can't be rehabilitated, you're Christian bashing.

If you suggest that the Republican Party is being held hostage by religious extremists ... you guessed it. You're Christian bashing.

This story will not die after Terri Schiavo passes away. Republicans will be feeling the repercussions for some time to come. Randall Terry will be sad to discover that the majority of Americans don't want a Christian Theocracy. They want to live in a society where people are free to practice their religion as they see fit, but where they are not free to use the police power of government to impose their religious beliefs on other people.
