Man fatally shot by deputy on Nevada Indian reservation
If you want to go to a bleak, desolate place in order to feel very depressed, go to Ft. McDermitt Reservation ...it is bleak, almost as bleak as the Goshute Reservation in Utah. Ever wonder why the Native American people ended up with the most worthless land in their own country? Did anyone say slow genocide??

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (AP) - A man was fatally shot by a sheriff's deputy after barricading himself in a home at the Fort McDermitt Indian Reservation 75 miles north of Winnemucca, authorities said.

The man ignored repeated requests to put his gun down and was shot after pointing it at the deputy on Friday afternoon, said Humboldt County Undersheriff Brian Jonas.

The man, whose name wasn't released, was pronounced dead after being taken to Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca.

The man came out of his home a first time to fire a round and strike a sheriff's patrol vehicle, Jonas said. He was fatally shot after coming out of the home again.

our federal government leases federal land in Nevada to overseas mining companies who mine it for gold at over $400. an ounce and not one thin dime is shared with the tribes of Nevada.

This poor tribe looked at sticking a casino out there where they are but they are in the middle of nowhere, what good would it do?

Senator Harry Reid protects the mining industry from these poor people.

Other info on the Western Shoshone ...I think Ft. McDermitt is the home to Paiutes...

6. Yes, Ft. McDermitt is Northern Paiute
After they were allowed to return to Nevada after being herded to Washington state in the 1850s (after the Pyramid Lake Wars) the government set up Ft. McDermitt.
Gee -- nice to take them away from the rich land around Pyramid Lake and send them to the back of beyond.
