Australian yet to be charged in mining pollution case
(One of Elko, Nevada's biggest mining employers and supporters of Bush and Cheney!)

An Australian man in Indonesia caught up in an alleged case of mining pollution in Indonesia says he has twice been interrogated by police in Jakarta but is yet to be formally charged.

Since last September five executives of the world's largest gold-producer, Newmont Mining, including Australian national Phil Turner, have been detained in the country.

The open cut mine ceased operating last year after eight years of production.

Just before the closure, locals in north Sulawesi alleged the company poisoned them and they filed a $700 million lawsuit.

The company admits the village bay contains arsenic and mercury but says the levels are within acceptable limits.
