Kyrgyzstan Sets June Vote for President
BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan — Parliament approved plans for a June presidential election as Kyrgyzstan's new authorities struggled Saturday to solidify the legal basis for their takeover of power from ousted President Askar A. Akayev.

Acting President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, a former opposition leader, said he expected to run.

Up to 3,000 Akayev supporters rallied Saturday in his home region of Chym Korgon, 55 miles from Bishkek, declaring that they would march on the capital.

In Moscow, the Kremlin issued a statement Saturday implying that Akayev was in Russia. "Askar Akayev asked to come to Russia, and this opportunity has been granted to him," the statement said. Akayev, 60, had been president since 1990, when Kyrgyzstan was still part of the Soviet Union.

1. This will be an interesting "Democratic" Revolution!
Kyrgyzstan is small and its major resource is "Water"!!! No oil here!! However it has a US air base at Gansi and a Russian air base 30 km away at Kant. It is also located very close to China's western border. Both the US and Russia use these bases to "spy" on China. However there is an uneasy peace between both, particularly since the US recently increased its AWAC's at Gansi. In response the Russians have increased the number of combat fighters at Kant, suspecting that these AWAC's are not being used in "The Bush Gang's" war on terror, but are about to be used on "Spying" missions into Russia and Iran. Obviously the American's don't believe that the Russians will "shoot" the AWAC's down! China has also responded by "trying" to bring up more anti-aircraft radar and missile batteries. However in Western China the PLA is under an intense, muslim lead, guerrilla war by minority populations, which makes their Western border difficult to "police" effectively.
In Kyrgyzstan, unlike Islam Karimov in Uzbekistan, Askar Akayev did not take US Dollars and threats the same way. He appears to have tried to play the US off against Russia and China. Obviously this has not "worked" and now Kyrgyzstan is going to be run by??? We don't yet know, although 3 frontrunners have put their "hands up".
Felix Kulov has been released from jail by demonstrators. However he is an ex-communist who has "plenty" of blood on his hands from his days as Interior Minister under the old Soviet regime.
Kurmanbek Bakiyev is a former Prime Minister, whose power base is very definately in the south of the country and who in 2002 used the security forces to kill many demonstrators in Bishkek the capital when serious riots broke out in Kyrgyzstan.
The third and most interesting candidate is Ishenbai Kadyrbekov. This guy was the former communist "Speaker" in the Parliament. He has had a serious "hate" problem of Askar Akayev for more than a decade. He is also, by far and away, the most pro "Bush Gang" candidate of the lot. He will take US dollars for anything, like his neighbour across the border in Uzbekistan. He is also backed by Senator John McCain's, US Taxpayer funded organization, The "Freedom House". This group is a front for the "Neo-Crazies" of which McCain is a member. However in order to bring Akayev down, McCain's group has had to deal with the growing Muslim Brotherhood organization called the Hizb-Ut-Tahrir. This group has been able to gain a very strong "foothold" in Kyrgyzstan and would like to expand into Uzbekistan if it could. However my extremely reliable sources in Uzbekistan tell me that Karimov, unlike Akayev, has met this organization with an "iron fist". However its funny when the Neo-crazies need extreme fundamental muslim groups for their own purposes how they are quite happy to deal with them outside of Fox News and CNN's prying investigative eye!! LOL
