Iraq-based Polish troops start withdrawal from Muthanna
http://www.kuna.net.kw/Home/Story.aspx?Language=en&DSNO=717439

BAGHDAD, March 27 (KUNA) -- Polish troops based in the southern Iraqi governorate of Muthanna started withdrawing, paving the way for British and Japanese troops to take over control of the city, an official of the Iraq-based Multi National Forces, speaking on a status of anonymity told newsmen Saturday evening.

There are about 1,700 Polish servicemen working under US commandership in Iraq, three of whom have been killed since such troops were deployed in the Arab country.

1. Do they mean the unarmed, polo shirt wearing Japanese troops?
I was under the impression that they were unarmed and didn't even wear military uniforms. Is that correct?

He says some Japanese troops are armed and can defend themselves in the event of an attack.

"The Japanese have with them some infantry - I think about 130 infantry - and those infantry are armed to provide direct self-defence," Mr Downer said.

"The job of the Australians is more broadly to create the secure environment in which the Japanese will be able to operate."

3. Ok.
