2. I sense a campaign that is about to end
These things usually happen prior to the announcement that the candidate is dropping out.

Interesting.

4. the thing he had going for him was he was leading the Dems nationally
but the recent ABC News and Newsweek poll shows that is down significantly and it really is a four way race between Gep, Lieberman, Kerry, and Dean.

9. He listened too closely to the DLC
Edited on Mon Jul-14-03 05:16 PM by w4rma
He got out of touch with voters and reality.
He was too uber-hawkish for Democrats and his predictions about the Iraq invasion/occupation have proved to be very very incorrect.
:hi:

10. Deck chairs all rearranged, Captain!
"Good job, Ensign. All ahead full! Tell the engine room I want Titanic under full sail by this afternoon."

So long, Mr. Lieberman. Now the field is narrowed down to just the Democratic contenders.

11. I thought
he would at least last 'til this winter. He's such a "big name" contender and all. Not that I would vote for him, or expected him to last past New Hampshire, but man, he was the almost elected US Vice President...

15. Ahem.
Not that I support him, but what do you mean
ALMOST elected vice President?

16. well
I do agree with you, he and Al were elected, but he's unfortunately not living at the Naval Observatory, so that's why I said "almost elected."

12. good for a number of reasons
Now if Edwards would just join him (if, in fact this is a signal the Lieberman wagon has lost its wheels) we'd be sure of not losing those two senate seats come 2004.

I want a Democratic president, but I also want to take back the senate.

We're never going to get the House back, I'm afraid.

Edited on Mon Jul-14-03 06:49 PM by jos
until '06.

I don't think this is necessarily a sign that he's going to drop out. But it is a sign of a campaign in trouble. And deservedly so.:nopity:

Here's the Washington Post's version of events, for those interested:

Excerpt:

Lieberman's Top Fundraisers Leaving
More May Follow in Campaign Shake-Up

The top fundraiser at the presidential campaign of Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (D-Conn.) resigned her position yesterday and her deputy made plans to quit after a weekend of turmoil inside the campaign over how to cut costs and put Lieberman into position to compete with better-funded rivals for the Democratic nomination.

Despite a personal plea from the candidate over the weekend, finance director Shari Yost stepped down from her position yesterday, and Democratic sources said her deputy, Jennifer Yocham, also intends to resign her post and that several mid-level staffers could follow them.

19. This is a campaign in complete disarray, though still alive.
He's still got a $4 million pot. If it were well managed that would be enough to get by for several months. But if he's paying his kids 6-figure salaries, and he's paying one of his two main fundraisers $20,000 a month (!!!), and he has nobody really in charge of the campaign, it does realistically say he's going to hit bottom before long, barring something unforeseen.

Lieberman sounds like a horrible administrator and a profligate spender.
