Bush names pick for Pentagon civilian job (replace Wolfowitz)
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050401/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/pentagon_england_1

<snip>
WASHINGTON - President Bush said Thursday that he has chosen Navy Secretary Gordon England for the No. 2 civilian job at the Pentagon.

Bush's nomination of England to serve as deputy secretary of defense requires Senate confirmation. He would succeed Paul Wolfowitz, who is leaving to head the World Bank.

England is seen as less ideological than Wolfowitz, who is regarded as a key architect of the Iraq invasion. England started as Navy secretary in May 2001, then switched to the Homeland Security Department's No. 2 spot in January 2003, only to return to the Navy post nine months later after Bush's choice for that job, New Mexico oilman Colin McMillan, committed suicide.

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld also put England in charge of the thorny issue of the status of prisoners from the war on terrorism being held at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

4. As the Revolving Door Turns...
Yup

"England brings more than 30 years of experience in the defense and technology industries to his new position as secretary of the Navy. Since 1997, he has been executive vice president of General Dynamics. Earlier he served General Dynamics as executive vice president of the Combat Systems Group, president of its Fort Worth aircraft company, and president of its land systems company. England also served as an engineer for Honeywell Corp. on the Gemini space program and as program manager for Litton Industries on the Navy's E-2C Hawkeye aircraft."
