Bill Clinton makes first public appearance since NY surgery
ARLINGTON, Va. After three weeks at home former President Bill Clinton returned to the public arena earlier tonight.

Being honored by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases for his post-presidency work fighting the spread of H-I-V and AIDS, Clinton called for more action to fight the disease.

This was Clinton's first public appearance since undergoing surgery for complications from a heart bypass operation.

1. I hope the rumours I keep hearing aren't true.
Regardless of the fact that he wasn't able to perform a miracle with a mostly right wing America during his presidency, I thought he was a good president and tried to make things better. The rumors I keep hearing don't sound good and he can't keep his butt off a stage. It's going to kill him if he doesn't learn to take it easy and let his heart heal. I wish someone would get through to him that he needs to take care of himself.

2. I wish nothing but the best for
President Clinton! I hope he feels better, breathes easier, and gets on with his life to the betterment of us fans! He's a bright bulb in a very very very dim atmosphere.

5. That was "before white Southerners knew that God was a Republican."

The 42nd president was given a humanitarian award named after the 39th president and his wife, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. In nominating Clinton for the honor, Carter singled out Clinton's work brokering deals to supply AIDS drugs at lower prices to Third World countries.

Clinton, 58, jokingly reminded the crowd he had worked on Carter's presidential campaign, "before white Southerners knew that God was a Republican."

He also took a swipe at the White House's proposed cut of all Amtrak subsidies, saying, "That's about the same amount as my personal tax cut over the last four years."

That's a talented man.
