Just on TV. Oh, dear God. Please, God, let him go easily. Please, God, don't make a Schiavo of him...

12. Actually you can
A heart does not require signals from a brain stem to continue beating on it's own. In fact, hearts have been removed from bodies still beating and would beat for several minutes on their own.

I once cut a frog's heart out in a biology class and it continued to beat on its own for three days.

14. Sure You Can
That's the whole distinction between being brain dead and physically dead. The lower brain centers still control involuntary functions like heartbeat and respiration.

17. yes you can... involuntary, body "mechanics" is at the very back base
of the brain, don't know too much about it but I know that the body mechanics, heart beat, breathing, etc. is in the Cerebellum, spinal cord area.

18. Make Bush the Next Pope!
I hope that bush is made the next pope because he is just as holy, if not holier then the pope, maybe even Jesus himself. We know that he is a great leader and holy, if i didn't mention that already, therefore, Bush should be the pope.

22. It will be interesting to see if there is a double standard here.
The Schindlers said that removing the tube from their daughter was considered murder. They said their daughter would never have said she did not want to be kept alive by artificial means because that would have been considered suicide, forbidden by devout Catholics which they claim to be.

26. Erasmus Darwin
managed to keep a chicken heart beating for about twenty years after it was removed from the chicken.
Or so I have heard.

Don't worry too hard about the Pope dearie.
1) He has a First Class ticket to Heaven, and
2) Those Cardinals are reputed to be some of the most die-hard right-to-lifers on the planet.

So relax.
This is NOT going to happen.
