DIAMOND SPRINGS, Calif. -- Waste Management workers in El Dorado County went on strike Friday morning because they said the company is not dealing fairly with their union.
The workers' contract expired Dec. 31 and Waste Management has made an offer for a new contract, but the union claims the company has been trying to negotiate the new contract with workers and not the union.
"We're the collective bargaining agent and I'm the lead negotiator -- and they should be talking to me about anything that has to do with an open contract. They've intimidated employees, they've threatened to replace them if they strike," said Frank Herrera of Operating Engineers Local 3. <snip>
