Now even Hollywood's outsourcing to India
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-1067409,curpg-1.cms

BANGALORE: Glitzy, dazzling, multibillion-dollar Hollywood is keen on outsourcing animation work from Indian studios in a big way, says the producer of the blockbuster "Lord Of The Rings"...

..."I think the talent is here. The artistry and rich cultural heritage of India offer a great opportunity for the Indian animation industry to work for Hollywood," Osborne affirmed...

...Expressing the hope that full-length three dimensional (3D) animation films would be produced in India, Osborne said with the huge talent pool in the subcontinent it was possible for international productions to take work from them to produce great films...

2. A lot of companies are complaining that the US workforce is not
educated. I keep assuming there are a lot of talented people in this country. Could we have lost everything in brain power & education here?

3. Yes.
After all, wealth and happiness in this country is directly related to an appearance on The Bachelor, or American Idol. Or maybe a sex tape.

While outsourcing is usually a fiscal decision, it also has alot to do with lack of qualified candidates.

11. NO-this about saving money. There are plenty of qualified people
out there. They don't want to pay people what they are worth, just like any other company who outsources workers. It is being proven that lots of intelligent educated people are getting their jobs outsourced. Just look at the tech industry-they've lost thousands of good paying jobs that required an education to-outsourcing. From what I've been reading lately, more jobs will soon be lost from other industries too. Americans should be up in arms over this-many are no doubt. But the corporate media bastards have successfully kept it under the radar, so it's not an issue-yet. Just wait until the coming depression....all hell will break loose then... :grr:

12. A local high school admin delivered that message to us...
He compared the level of education in India to ours. We are woefully behind the times.. by decades. America has an illness.. and it is fueled by corporate America and our lack of effort. The number of students graduated each year in India that are considered academically advanced is somewhere around 3 million. America is a few hundred thousand.

Why should kids here work at challenging classes when they could be having fun? Why load a kid up with homework if the parents are constantly complaining that it cuts into their "free time"? You can finance the rewards of hard work without the hard work.. We are allowing TV and adverstisers to turn our once-great nation into a nation of non-readers, non-academics, and non-producers.

When my friend in Belgium tells me of what her sons are doing in jr and senior high school, it's embarrassing to admit how we lag here. The educators here are doing the best they can, and can produce some exceptional students.. but only a handful can compete with the level of education in other countries. Educators here are bound by lack of resources (I can't understand why educaiton is not funded fully), some selfish and superficial parents, and by a lack of interest from our Federal Government.

An adecdote from jr. high last year: A neighbor who works in an elementary school has a daughter in 7th grade. In the carpool she is consistently complaining that teachers have been assigning BIG projects to her daughter, even though this is when SHE is rehearsing for a ballet production each night and on the weekends. It's the same every semester.. she complains to the school, to other parents, and to the teachers, that they are giving the kids big projects at times of the year when the kids are busy getting ready for the holidays, etc. I have heard this bullshit over and over from other parents.. complaining about all the work. I have a kid in the same grade, at the same school. The homework is almost non-existent. The "big" projects are no more than 3 hours of work at home over 4 weeks... I often worry that high school will be a shock because the homework is so light at the jr. high here. Parents actually complain that their kids get too much homework... and that class size is too large. When.. in other countries with kick-ass education, the class sizes are doubled, the mastery is phenomenal, and the parents are cooperative.

No wonder India is kicking our ass! Have you noticed the perfect diction and grammar when you call somewhere with Indian employees? I think it's wrong, wrong, wrong, for American corporations to destroy our way of life by outsourcing bread-winner jobs here.. but it's time for us to speak up about the education disparity.

7. My Husband Is An Animator
There hasn't been any real animation work for artists here in about 15 years. He makes his living basically timing animation to be sent overseas. It's really a shame how many great animators are working on the fringe of the industry which has completely been outsourced not only to India but Korea, Canada, Australia, anywhere they can save a dime. You have to leave the country to really be a pencil and paper animator today. It's really a shame. He was born too late for sure.

8. This is unbelieveable. We can't even make cartoons in this country?
I love cartoons by the way. And I consider any animation a cartoon. But this is really sad.

10. You Definitely See It In The Quality Of the Animation
There are people who are ready and willing to do Chuck Jones, Friz Freeling style full animation -- but people are used to just watching total crap. Certainly not the quality of work we had when it was done here but everything is dumbed down now, people don't really expect to turn on the TV and see great animation. Or great journalism for that matter.
