"Cheney is cold on Kofi" (disagrees with DeLay on judges)
snip>
Asked if Annan should remain, Cheney finessed the question and replied, "Our views haven't changed any with respect to Kofi Annan."

And what are those views?

"They haven't changed a bit," Cheney repeated with a smile as he passed up the invitation to voice confidence in the embattled U.N. chief just days after a critical report from prober Paul Volcker.
....
On another issue, Cheney said he backed efforts to help save Terri Schiavo's life, but strongly disagreed with House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), who wants retribution against judges who blocked restoration of her feeding tube.

"I don't think that's appropriate . . . There's a reason why judges get lifetime appointments," he said

2. UH OH!!!! Does that mean the Admin is baking off of DeLay?
Sorry, I don't listen to Cheney either! I do however believe he is the strongest decision maker in the admin, and if he says "I strongly disagree with the House Majority Leader" I think the rest of the admin will do the same.

Look out Tom, you're about to take a BIG, LONG FALL!

36. Off-topic question...
I've been trying to decipher your avatar... I think it's and out of control grandfather clock whose pendulum has broken through the side of the chest. Anywhere near right?

a way to make it a bit bigger? Seems the size it is now is the maximum for avatar sizes on DU.

7. Time to review the recent pronouncement by powerful conservative groups...
snip>
Conservative leaders say defending House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is a litmus test for any Republican lawmaker seeking their support . . .

Morton Blackwell, Republican National Committee member from Virginia and a member of ACU's board, said Republicans are being told support for Mr. DeLay is mandatory if they want future support from conservatives.

13. I'm stunned. Could this be a tiny glimpse of a moral or a value?
...or just good handling by Karl Rove?

19. It's possible they are seeing DeLay as a political liability.
Maybe they are considering cutting him loose.

It would be a smart move on their part, as DeLay is a scary mofo, he makes the Republican Party look like the Mob.

21. Looks like Karl Rove is getting ready to DUMP
that "poorly performing asset" --- and look "principled & high minded" in the process. It's hard to imagine anyone WORSE than DeLay, but don't be surprised. It may be like Frist replacing Lott.

But he's far more mean-spirited than Trent Lott, who merely wanted to "get along with everybody". Let's hope.

33. Not in this administration - a moral or value? sheesh
I think it means bye bye delay. And maybe the beginning of the end of the RW - "Christian" reign over our government. I think there are some things even Rove has no control over, for example, the insanity of the "christian" wingnuts who jebbie let down. Now Cheney will find himself on the outs with them, too. It could get interesting.

Cheney Opposes Retribution Against Schiavo Judges

Vice President Cheney says he opposes revenge against judges for their refusal to prolong the life of the late Terri Schiavo, although he did not criticize House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) for declaring that they will "answer for their behavior."

Cheney was asked about the issue on Friday by the editorial board of the New York Post. He said twice that he had not seen DeLay's remarks, but the vice president said he would "have problems" with the idea of retribution on the courts. "I don't think that's appropriate," he said. "I may disagree with decisions made by judges in any one particular case. But I don't think there would be much support for the proposition that because a judge hands down a decision we don't like, that somehow we ought to go out -- there's a reason why judges get lifetime appointments."
