Terri Schiavo Cremated Amid Family Feud
Terri Schiavo's body was cremated Saturday as disagreements continued between her husband and her parents, who were unable to have their own independent expert observe her autopsy. The cremation was carried out according to a court order issued Tuesday establishing that Michael Schiavo had the right to make such decisions, said his lawyer, George Felos. He said plans for burying her ashes in Pennsylvania, where she grew up, had not yet been completed.

Terri Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had wanted to bury their daughter in Pinellas County so they could visit her grave. Terri Schiavo, 41, died Thursday after the removal of the feeding tube that had kept her alive since 1990, when she suffered brain damage that court-appointed doctors determined had placed her in a persistent vegetative state. Her parents had fought in court to keep her alive, disputing the doctors' opinions and saying there was hope of improvement.

Michael Schiavo has not spoken publicly since his wife's death, but Felos said Saturday: "He's holding up. It's very difficult for him." Michael Schiavo is required to tell his wife's parents of any memorial services he plans for Terri Schiavo and where her ashes are interred.

1. I assume MS has his reasons for placing her ashes in the family plot,
but if I were him I'd be mightily tempted to scatter them and be done with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the publicity-glutton Schindlers didn't continue to try legal action against him to get the ashes.

4. i think he does not want the burial site as a martyr shrine for the wackos
to pray over and so forth. you know the wackos who have raped, tortured, and murderd hundreds of millions of people in the past 2000 years.

5. Right - but that's why I'd scatter the ashes rather than risk the
family plot become the site of another media circus.

7. The Church frowns on the scattering of ashes.
Cremation is fine, and even having the ashes instead of the body at a requiem mass is okay now, too. However, the Church believes ashes should be treated like a body, and should be kept "whole."

8. It forbids birth control too but that doesn't stop most American
Catholics from using it.

2. I hope they all can begin the recovery from loss
It's hard for all families when parents and a spouse disagree on where someone should be buried but it's not unique to the Schindlers.

All in all, I hope they just let Terri rest in peace and move on.

6. Take her remains far, far away from the public.
Leave her in peace.
