Six Somalis beheaded in Saudi Arabia for armed robbery
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 11:16 AM by NNN0LHI
RIYADH - Six Somalis were beheaded the Mecca region on Monday after being convicted of a spate of armed robberies against taxi drivers, the Saudi interior ministry said. snip

The latest executions bring to 36 the number of beheadings announced by Saudi authorities so far this year, more than the number of executions for the whole of 2004.

Executions are generally carried out in public in Saudi Arabia, which applies a strict form of Islamic law. The death penalty is meted out for murder, rape, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking.

2. Apostasy = Renouncing Faith or parts of what a group determines is
the true faith. Fundies will call you an apostate for thinking the earth is billions of years old...

4. Chop Chop Square
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 11:30 AM by joefree1
I was driven by "Chop Chop Square" during a visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I was told that if the crowd sees a Westerner coming to the public execution they drag you up front so you can get a ringside seat at the beheading. Needless to say I steered clear of Chop Chop Square on Fridays when the executions took place.

I'd recommend sending neo-cons to the event but I'm not sure if it would doing any good. Sure, some might rethink their support of the Saudis or execution but others would probably get a orgasmic thrill out of seeing a beheading.

6. It usually means converting to Christianity; it can
mean a lot of other things, but that's the primary one.

Under Shari'a the victims can usually forgive the criminal and spare his life; this is usually accompanied by some "gift" of great value.

Sa'udi Arabia has very strict immigration laws, and even Arab News has a fair number of articles and op/ed pieces that have more than a whiff of racism about them. Sort of "Somailia and Sudan are good because they officially adopted Shari'a; but please, get them out of the country after their pilgrimage is over."

12. Hell of a place to choose to conduct an armed robbery! They
should become politicians in America, much easier heist.
