King County election chief under fire
Two Republican council members call on Logan to resign

By GREGORY ROBERTS
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

The top election official in King County should resign, two Republican members of the County Council said yesterday in reaction to the latest blunder to come to light in the troubled election department.

That problem -- the discovery during the last 10 days of 93 valid mail-in ballots mistakenly left out of the vote count in the November election -- triggered angry reactions from both Republican and Democratic council members.

But the performance of election director Dean Logan was endorsed yesterday by his boss, King County Executive Ron Sims, who appointed Logan in 2003 to straighten out earlier problems in the department.

"I continue to have full faith and confidence in Director Dean Logan and believe the people of this county are best served by allowing him to finish the election reforms needed," Sims said in a statement.

1. One problem, this I am sure happens all over this country
and with the Republicans behind it, I am also sure that it has been planned as well by them. After the stolen election in Ohio this year and the stolen election in my home state of Floridia in 2000, I have no sympathy for this ugly party. They once again trying to rail road someone because it did not work out for them. Suck eggs.

4. 3 King County Election Workers Suspended
3 King County Election Workers Suspended

April 5, 2005

By Bryan Johnson

SEATTLE - There's a new flap over vote counting in King County.

Three county election workers were suspended Tuesday evening after another mail ballot snafu -- this one involving the upcoming April 26 hospital levy election.

Last week, the three workers were transferred from the mail processing headquarters to the elections office downtown after they failed to completely process 93 absentee votes in the Nov. 2 election.

The 93 ballots had been signature-checked, but the ballots were left inside secrecy envelopes and never processed. King County Executive Ron Sims called that incident "extremely upsetting" and two Republican members of the King County Council had called for the resignation of elections superintendent Dean Logan.

5. discovery?
I bet they hid them when they thought they were going to win and pulled them out now as a last resort.

I have no doubt in my mind that if Al Gore had been a repuke in the situation of 2000, he'd had either gained the presidency or they would have burned the white house down.

7. Judge Sets May 23 Trial Date For Election Challenge
Judge Sets May 23 Trial Date For Election Challenge

April 5, 2005

By KOMO Staff & News Services

WENATCHEE - The legal challenge to the governor's election will go to trial May 23, Chelan County Superior Court Judge John Bridges decided Tuesday.

Bridges said the trial shouldn't take more than two weeks. Whatever he decides, the case will ultimately be appealed to the state Supreme Court, a process that will take at least several months.

Republicans are challenging the election of Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire, who won by just 129 votes in a hand recount of 2.9 million ballots, after Republican Dino Rossi had won the first two counts.

Bridges scheduled a preliminary hearing for May 2 to determine what the Republicans' burden of proof will be in arguing for a new election.

At a news conference Tuesday morning, Gregoire said she's not paying much attention to the election challenge.

8. Ken Schram Commentary: It's Only 6 Mistakes
Ken Schram Commentary: It's Only 6 Mistakes

SEATTLE - Why is everyone so down on Dean Logan?

OK, so maybe there were those 660 provisional ballots that were counted last November without being validated first.

And sure, first we were told there were 573 valid absentee ballots that weren't tallied, and yeah, some dyslexic election officials got the numbers all mixed up and it turned out to be 735 ballots, but in the end, only 566 actually wound up being counted anyway.

And who amongst us is going to quibble about that other handful of absentee ballots discovered after the election was over, or that one or two or two hundred felons were illegally registered to vote.

But now we've got the King County Council freaking out JUST BECAUSE ANOTHER 93 ballots have made their way to the surface.
