Canada, giant car makers sign global warming pact
TORONTO (AFP) - Canada signed a deal with giant car manufacturers to cut greenhouse gases spewed out by cars and light trucks by 5.3 megatonnes by the end of 2010.

Natural Resources Minister John Efford said the pact proved that Canada was committed to the Kyoto Protocol on climate change and the auto industry, often derided by environmentalists, was serious about tackling global warming.

"I am particularly glad that we've reached this historic agreement voluntarily, which shows the automobile industry is prepared to do its part to address climate change," he said.

Joe Hinrichs, president and CEO of Ford Canada, said the auto industry was "dedicated" to environmental progress, and looked forward to a "brighter and cleaner" road ahead.

1. Nice! Too bad this initiative couldn't have been taken by the U.S. instead
:(

I wish America was a world leader again.

2. But chimpy can't join in the Kyoto accord.....
it'll cost to much money that he can spend fighting a false war in Iraq that has killed thousands!

There's a new motto for him - just kill off everybody, then you won't have to worry about global warming!!

3. Oh those Bushies must be so mad. There is more Oil in Alberta than
in anywhere but Saudi Arabia. But it is dirty, dirty, dirty and in gravel. Not only with the cars. But future Kyoto standards will mean they have to pay attention to externalities.

Not only do they have to 'cook' the tar sands to get the crude out of the gravel so it can flow into pipelines.. but now they have to be careful of emissions if they get dirty with natural gas or use crude itself to 'cook' the oil out of the sands. And they may have to pay for expensive filtering systems.

In other words.. they will have to pay to stop 'externalities' from happening.

Big Oil must be roaring mad.

Go Canada go! I heart Martin.
