1. I don't understand the significance but it must be good if it was straight
down the party line.

2. I doubt it will make much difference, since the nat'l party has abandoned
Alabama.

3. I believe this was a great move by the Alabama Democratic party
Since a southern state which has more Democratic state senators keeps getting ignored in the national democratic party.

Hopefully the DNC sits up and pays some attention there.

4. Alabama Isn't As Red As You Think
I am thrilled to know that I can have an impact in selecting the Democratic Presidential nominee. I will likely choose a candidate and work for them as well. I'm overjoyed.

State Senate

25- Democrats
10 Republicans

State House of Representatives

63- Democrats
42- Republicans

5. All Red States should vote earlier - absolutely no down side
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 07:39 AM by Clark Bayh 2008
IA & NH produce momentum.
Big MO can only be stopped by counter momentum.

Hillary wins IA.
Clark wins NH.
Other NE's & liberals drop out.
Clark wins in Alabama & Edwards wins in SC.

Ticket is pretty much set as others drop out & a 3 way race is on.

6. Well thank you Alabama!
I finally will have a say in the presidential primary instead of being an afterthought in June.

7. Did you catch this?
"...to move the Alabama presidential preference primary in 2008 to the Saturday after the New Hampshire Primary."

That is why the Repubs didn't like it. Because it will be on Saturday which will allow most everyone a chance to vote. They don't like the concept of voting holidays or voting on weekends because they like the fact that the poor and minimum wage earners have a difficult time getting to the polls.

10. Good catch
That's interesting. I didn't catch the significance of the fact that it was on a Saturday, and was wondering why the 'pugs weren't for it. All I could think of was that they thought having a southern state primary that early in the show might help a more moderate Democrat get the nomination, and they didn't want that to happen because they figure a moderate Dem Presidential candidate is more likely to beat a 'pug Presidential candidate.

(Then again, I know that assuming Southern states pick moderates in their Democratic primaries isn't as reliable an assumption as it used to be; with so many Southern conservatives becoming Repugs, the Democratic parties have actually gotten significantly less conservative, if still not quite "liberal.")
