Blast From the Past? (Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy)
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com

Sources close to the former president say Rove was fired from the 1992 Bush presidential campaign after he planted a negative story with columnist Robert Novak about dissatisfaction with campaign fundraising chief and Bush loyalist Robert Mosbacher Jr. It was smoked out, and he was summarily ousted.

Can we see those phone logs?

Let's give a shout out to Josh Marshall!!!

2. Damn - Can we dream of seeing Rove frog marched in handcuffs
and in an orange jumpsuit?

This needs to get spread far and wide to journalists and pundits.

4. We will fuck him. We will ruin him. Like no one has ever fucked him!"
I made these inquiries in part because last spring, when I spoke to White House chief of staff Andrew Card, he sounded an alarm about the unfettered rise of Rove in the wake of senior adviser Karen Hughes’s resignation: "I’ll need designees, people trusted by the president that I can elevate for various needs to balance against Karl. . . . They are going to have to really step up, but it won’t be easy. Karl is a formidable adversary."

One senior White House official told me that he’d be summarily fired if it were known we were talking. "But many of us feel it’s our duty—our obligation as Americans—to get the word out that, certainly in domestic policy, there has been almost no meaningful consideration of any real issues. It’s just kids on Big Wheels who talk politics and know nothing. It’s depressing. Domestic Policy Council meetings are a farce. This leaves shoot-from-the-hip political calculations—mostly from Karl’s shop—to triumph by default. No one balances Karl. Forget it. That was Andy’s cry for help."

<snip>

Inside, Rove was talking to an aide about some political stratagem in some state that had gone awry and a political operative who had displeased him. I paid it no mind and reviewed a jotted list of questions I hoped to ask. But after a moment, it was like ignoring a tornado flinging parked cars. "We will fuck him. Do you hear me? We will fuck him. We will ruin him. Like no one has ever fucked him!" As a reporter, you get around—curse words, anger, passionate intensity are not notable events—but the ferocity, the bellicosity, the violent imputations were, well, shocking. This went on without a break for a minute or two. Then the aide slipped out looking a bit ashen, and Rove, his face ruddy from the exertions of the past few moments, looked at me and smiled a gentle, Clarence-the-Angel smile.

I hope his chubby ass go to jail for this! I know, wishful thinking on my part. He's probably untouchable.

5. Yeah Josh Marshall!
He has been a wonderful asset on this case. Lets not forget his work on Trent Lott either. When Josh Marshall gets on the case the story continues to grow. I think he may be right about his guess that the SOA is Tenet and that Rove and Card are the two WH leakers. What makes it more interesting if it is Tenet is the timeline of the Wilson/Niger case. Could Tenet have known the identities of the two leakers when he took the fall for bu$h on July 12. It's possible that he knew who they were, and that he was bidding his time waiting to spring a trap shut on them. Maybe I'm thinking he might have more up his sleeve.

Sonia

Rough timeline:
State of the Union Speech (Jan. 27, 2003)
Wilson's op-ed in the NY Times (July 6, 2003)
White House admits Niger claim was false (July 8-9, 2003)
Tenet and CIA take blame for errors in speech (July 12 2003)
Novak's article outing Wilson's wife (July 14, 2003)

I think this nugget from TPM needs to be blasted to all our lazy journalists.

Getting Rove out of the Chimpy WH and out of the campaign would be a real blow to them. Do we have our Watergate?

11. *'s campaign without Rove?
Imagine! Without Rove, he would be lost! It would take a serious political genius to make up for that loss. I'm not sure if there would be anyone dirty enough to compensate.

12. I'm so glad that there is so much attention being paid
to this. It would be very hard to have Mr. Wilson *ahem* disappear or have an *ahem* accident with all this light on him. Has anyone spoken to Novak to see what his take on this is? Funny how this story was supposed to have been given to five separate reporters and only that scumbag, Novak, actually chose to use it. :kick:

19. WH is denying that Rove is the leak
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 12:53 PM by sonias
'Inquiry' targets alleged White House leak
http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20030929-101336-9943r
(snip)
Meanwhile, the White House denied Monday that presidential adviser Karl Rove was the source of the leak, and said they would support the inquiry into the incident.

"The president believes that if someone leaked classified information, particularly on this nature, that it is a serious matter and should be looked into and pursued to the fullest extent possible," spokesman Scott McClellan said.
(/snip)

Okay who's going to take the fall for Rove. Certainly they would not specifically say it was not Rove if they knew they couldn't get someone else to take the blame. I certainly hope Wilson has given them the names of the 4 reporters that called him to tell him the WH was shopping this information around. We know Andrea Mitchell was one of the reporters contacted and Novak. Who are the other 4?

25. A serious matter, now that there is some press attention,
but strange how they ignored the outing of a CIA agent from July until now. Or maybe they just forgot, they don't seem to have very good memories at the WH.

Notice in WP article near the bottom it states that Tenet did ask Justice to look at this earlier. Now he has sent a LETTER. Put it in writing like Waxman to Condi (did he get an answer?).

Political operatives should not mess about with intelligence operatives: the latter are far better at it, since the penalty for failure is pain and death.
