Moro Islamic Liberation Front: US can turn Mindanao into Afghanistan

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on Tuesday said Mindanao will never be similar to pre-US occupied Afghanistan unless the Americans make it so.

MILF spokesman Eid Kabalu accused US Charge d’ Affaires Joseph Mussomeli of waging a psy-war for saying Mindanao is a haven for terrorists.

The US official earlier said some areas of Mindanao were "so lawless, so porous the borders that you run the risk of it becoming like an Afghanistan situation."

"There is no truth to his statement, just speculation. There is no basis for that statement, unless the Americans make a move to make it an Afghanistan," Kabalu said in a DZMM interview.

In separate interviews with Sun.Star, Senator Nene Pimentel, First District of Misamis Oriental Representative Danilo Lagbas and Cagayan de Oro lone district Representative Constantino Jaruala all agree that the warning aired by US embassy charge d' affaires Joseph Mussomeli is "exaggerated" and "too alarmist."
