Groups Hold Dueling Pro- and Anti-Gay Days

Irked by the success of the nationwide Day of Silence, which seeks to combat anti-gay bias in schools, conservative activists are launching a counter-event this week called the Day of Truth aimed at mobilizing students who believe homosexuality is sinful.

Participating students are being offered T-shirts with the slogan "The Truth Cannot be Silenced" and cards to pass out to classmates Thursday — the day following the Day of Silence — declaring their unwillingness to condone "detrimental personal and social behavior."

The driving force behind the Day of Truth is the Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal group that has opposed same-sex marriage and challenged restrictions on religious expression in public schools. The event is endorsed by several influential conservative organizations, including the Christian ministry Focus on the Family and the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.

Mike Johnson, an Alliance Defense Fund attorney from Shreveport, La., said organizers were unsure how many students would participate in the Day of Truth, but expressed hope it would grow in coming years as more people learned about it.

2. They don't condone "detrimental personal and social behavior"?
My, my, such circumspect language! Why don't they just come out and say what they mean and mean what they say, instead of cowering behind this obfuscation? C'mon you so-called "truth-tellers"! Why are you so afraid to spell out exactly what you mean?

13. I'm just guessing, but...
I'd wager most of them are pro-war lil Republicans.

Why can't senseless killing be deemed "detrimental personal and social behavior" instead of who I decide to f*ck? Excuse my French.

3. two can play that game
some of us believe that hatemongering is immoral and sinful and SHOULD be silenced. With prejudice.

Unfortunately for them all it will do is show the world who the small mean minded bigots are, and most kids know it's not cool to be a bigot.

This is yet another war that "conservative activists" are perfectly willing to use children to fight with, even against other children. Now that's immoral and sinful.

And shameful.

4. Put me down for the Pro rally.
A Biblical reference for condemning what other people do with their genitals is insane and unacceptable.

Paulists need to be corralled and made to apologize for their attempt to control others' genital activity.

9. My Idea: Human Pride Day
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 04:56 PM by IanDB1
During this day, we would all celebrate our common identity as Human Beings.

The material would make absolutely no mention of race, religion, orientation, etc.

"On this day we celebrate, reaffirm and take pride in our common heritage and worth as Human Beings."

Period.

That would be the entire Mission Statement and pledge.

That is all that would be on any t-shirt or poster or bumper sticker or button or pledge.

Let's see Dobson try to claim that "Human Being" is a code-word for "homosexual."
