KURDS PREPARE FOR GUERRILLA WAR IN IRAN

By Phil Sands, Staff Reporter

Near Sulaimaniya, Iraq: Kurdish fighters dedicated to overthrowing the Iranian Government are hiding out in the mountains of northern Iraq, waiting for a chance to strike at Tehran.

Gulf News gained exclusive access to the militiamen as they trained for a full-scale guerrilla war that could send shockwaves through the region.

Rebel leader Ebrahim Alizada said: "Our armed struggle began in Iranian Kurdistan and will continue until we have freedom."

The fighters are members of Komala, a group of militant socialist Kurds dedicated to bringing down Tehran. Hundreds of young men and women armed with AK47 rifles, machine guns and RPGs are training in northern Iraq for this mission.

2. Civil War, ...hell...
we're working on setting off a slow-motion world war.

We've got Kurds vs. Arabs in kirkuk. Sunni Arabs vs. Shiite arabs throughout Iraq. Turkey vs. the Kurds in Turkey and Iraqi kurdistan.
And most of these groups against us and the remnants of "the coalition of the willing".

21. That's what easily could happen as China has signed a 70b
oil deal w/ Iran, and Russian is backing the Iranians.

I think we're going to be looking at a quite different year in 2006 and I'm scared shitless.

5. Looks like the neocons have promised the Kurds a Kurdistan state.
in exchange for them becoming soldiers of fortune for the US.

Too bad they are destined to be betrayed once again. The US will never turn on Turkey.

The Kurds have been suckered in by us more times than they can count.

9. Yeah, they should remember their history
Nixon promised to help them too, and sold them out to the Shah. But they seem to be getting better at playing both ends against the middle. Hell, they got the Iraqi presidency, which may be a figurehead post, but it gives a shitload of ACCESS, and access can change hearts and minds. A foot in the door, and a big foot at that!

There's autonomy in Iraq, and if the Persian Kurds can get some of that, it is only a matter of time before the Turkish Kurds want a piece of the pie as well--and then, bingo, a Kurdish state.

That won't sit well with our neighbors to the north of Iraq...!

13. US&Turkey
Why wouldn't US turn on Turkey? It did already by attacking Iraq, arresting Turkish soldiers, by favouring Kurds and by levelling a Turkoman city in Northern Iraq.

Why wouldn't US turn on Turkey? Turkey is actually democratic and becoming more and more so with support from EU. And as is well known, for US any real democracy is a big problem.

15. Maybe so. The Turks are a "democracy" like the Iranians are a "democracy"
and that's exactly the kind of "democracy" the neo-cons understand best. They like a gov't run by a secret elite that masquerades as a democracy. That's the Iranian, Turkish and Bush/US model.

So I guess if we can turn on Iran for this model, we can turn on the Turks as well. After all, we don't need flyover and base permissions from them anymore, do we?

17. No
Turkey is democracy like UK is democracy, US is democracy like Iran is.

You see, there's a scale of democracy, Turkey and UK coming close to European standards, US and Iran much less so. And even the highest European standard (Finland) is not much to brag about, we should aim better.

DEMOCRACY ALL THE WAY!

22. Not so. The military still calls the shots in Turkey.
They remain the power behind the "throne" of democracy.

29. True. But they can keep it any way they want it.
Once you allow a hidden hand to have control, as we have here in the US, you no longer have a democracy.

30. There's always a hidden hand
In the West, it's called capital. There can be no political democracy without economic democracy, i.e. direct participation of the people in the ownership of the means of production.

7. And why are we in the ME?
No WMD's, no national security interests, Bush basically lying to us and now this? No thanks. Bush stuck us over there, now he should pull us out of there. Our economy is sunk and our kids are dying daily as well as innocent Iraqis. Enough is enough.

Bush's corporate globalist donors have never realized higher profits. Can't we just leave now and cut our losses?

16. So the Kurds attack Iran, Iran bitchslaps the Kurds
The U.S. starts an airwar on Iran for bitchslapping the Kurds, Israel joins the U.S. and the entire Middle East bands together against Israel. Sounds like bloody hell to me.
