House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, will take a break from the battles over his ethics on Capitol Hill next week to headline a fundraiser for state Delegate Jeffrey M. Frederick, R-Prince William.
DeLay is scheduled as guest of honor at a private reception for Frederick on Tuesday evening in Washington, outside of the freshman delegate's Northern Virginia district. Tickets range from $250 to $2,000.
. . .
State Democrats said Frederick should cancel the event with DeLay, calling it "a terrific error in judgment."
"Here's a man up to his neck in ethics complaints, who has neutered the very House committee that would have investigated him, and yet Frederick's actions indicate he sees nothing wrong with this," said Kerry J. Donley, chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia. Frederick could not be reached for comment.
He is expected to face Democrat Hilda M. Barg, a member of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, in the Nov. 8 election.
