McCain irks Republicans over anti-filibuster option (Moonie Times)
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 06:55 PM by jefferson_dem
A rather humorous RightWing rag story...

By Charles Hurt
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Sen. John McCain has once again enraged Republicans by publicly opposing Majority Leader Bill Frist's plan to employ the so-called nuclear option for ending the filibusters against President Bush's judicial nominees.

"Look, we won't always be in the majority," Mr. McCain told MSNBC's "Hardball" host Chris Matthews Thursday night. "I say to my conservative friends, someday there will be a liberal Democrat president and a liberal Democrat Congress. Why? Because history shows it goes back and forth. I don't know if it's a hundred years from now, but it will happen. And do we want a bunch of liberal judges approved by the Senate of the United States with 51 votes if the Democrats are in the majority?"

Mr. McCain particularly outraged conservatives by telling Mr. Matthews that Republicans have done the same thing to Democrats in the past, a point that Republicans dispute.

Conservatives responded yesterday by coordinating a three-pronged attack on the Arizona Republican aiming to either flip him or kill any hope he may have of running for president again in 2008.

2. So all that craven ass-kissing and Bush-hugging he did
during the campaign isn't going to save him? What made him think those vipers would show any gratitude for how he whored himself for the GOP? The minute he disagrees with the Borg, they turn on him. Ha, too bad...

and IMO... McCain deserves it. No respect for him at all. Yuck factor.

Edit to respond to #3... McCain is the one to fear in 08, but the proud fanatics have way to big an ego to sit back and take criticism, and let him get away with it. LOL

12. Oh man, they fuckin' hate him. Here's a prime example ...
To: sasportas
"This is the last straw. You people in Arizona PLEASE dump this Benedict Arnold of the Republican party."

Actually he always has been a "benedict arnold".
He confessed to war crimes at the hands of the enemy, while others didnt. He got a pass because his father was an admiral.....effectively he is a coward and a blowhard.

To: drpix
McCain didn't "irk" me. My feelings go way beyond "irk".

I'm glad he is doing this. I want all the people that claim McCain is better than Hillary to witness the soul of this man. If it takes repeated lumps on the head to get that message through, so be it.

Then come his next Arizona primary boot his two faced opportunistic butt out the door. You want to send a message to the McCain-ites delaying progress of a conservative agenda? Nothing would do so better than ridding the U.S. Senate of this man. Chafee and Hagel will have to do in '06.

I'm glad to hear the Republicans are doing everything possible to hurt his chances.

5. McCain is a true american hero
The fact that the freepers and the GOP are mad at him is great. McCain statements have made it easier for the other moderates in Senate to vote against the nuclear option.

8. If he succeeds in preventing Frist from killing the filibuster,
then good for him. But I'm still really disgusted with him for being such a 'ho before the election, especially considering what Busholini did to him (and his family!) during the 2000 campaign.

6. Oh they hate all people that use logic and common sense!
It doesn't matter if they're Pybs or Dems. Anyone who doesn't toe the ShrubCo line is to be destroyed!

Although McCain is the most outspoken of them all, they hate Collins, Snowe, Chaffee, and all the other FEW remaining real Pubs.

I just hope there are enough of 'em in the Senate to destroy the fillibuster change.

9. McCain and Bob Dole are conservatives, not neo-con asswipes
A good deal of the time, I might not agree with their votes, but they recognize reality for what it is, and they know that America is a diverse population, and that we have to work together to achieve our goals.

There seem to be few Republicans anymore who are just for hands off government. The Bush and DeLay agenda has been anything but hands off, responsible spending government.

If they vote down the filibuster, I imagine the senate will shut down.

Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 06:59 PM by smoogatz
he does something courageous and honest that wins my respect. Then he immediately fucks it up by snuggling up to the wingnuts and fascists again. If I'm conflicted watching him operate, imagine how he must feel.

13. Why Frist is becoming a televangelist? RW Cons are going to deliver the
Prez nomination to him.

"Combating the Democratic filibusters has become a hot issue among conservatives, who see the judicial branch as the last bastion of liberalism. Mr. Frist, who also appears to be running for the Republican nomination, will be rewarded if he gets Mr. Bush's nominee on the bench, conservatives say, and Mr. McCain will be punished if he opposes those efforts."

14. The former Frist Aide cited is same staffer who hacked into Dem computers
The former Frist Aid cited in the story is the same asshole who hacked into the Senate Democratic computers and stole memos and confidential information. This asshole was fired but not put into prison. If Ashcroft was not such a tool, this staffer should be in prison right now.

16. Rethugs don't worry about possibility of not having the filibuster
if Dems are in control, because they believe they'll never get a chance to use it because we'll have Armageddon.

They destroy anyone who dares to buck the party line and they'll destroy McCain...even though he has a better chance to win than any other Rwthug. Not to bright......but neither are they.

17. i wouldn't believe a word he says
what does he care about 'a hundred years from now' if the Dems take control of Congress or the WH?
he won't be around then will he, so whether it's in 3, 8, 12, or 100 years, he's not worried about time factor, OR the Dems in power.

he's aware of Diebold, and his own ass in office only. This 'nuclear option' is going to take more than the Dem's and McCain's votes to kill. Why wouldn't a significent amount of other repugs be worried that history shows 'it goes back and forth' if not for the small fact that Diebold changes everything? Note also he says 'if' , not 'when' .

just my imo... and McCain can shove it.
