Rice: Bush needs Bolton at U.N.
Secretary of state criticizes Senate panel delay on nominee
From Jill Dougherty
CNN

Wednesday, April 20, 2005 Posted: 9:52 AM EDT (1352 GMT)

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice fields questions Wednesday at a Moscow radio station.

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Wednesday that President Bush's nomination of John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations should go forward, and she criticized the debate over his conduct.

"I would certainly hope that this would be brought soon to conclusion," Rice told CNN in Moscow as she visits Russia for the first time as the top U.S. diplomat.

"The president deserves to have the person at the U.N. that he thinks best to carry out this job. I think we make a mistake when suddenly comments about management style become part of the confirmation process."

Rice said the United States is "at a severe disadvantage" without a U.N. representative in place as the reform process goes forward at the United Nations.

During confirmation hearings last week, senators heard allegations that Bolton tried to intimidate or have fired intelligence analysts who disagreed with him. (Full story)

must be pretty sure they can intimidate Voinovich back into the fold or else they wouldn't let Conda-liar put her new-found prestige on the line for this a-hole.....

They seem to be positioning Condi to be on the "winning" side of the argument....they may have miscalculated...BADLY!

WTF? I thought "management style" had everything to do with whether or not one could do the job.

10. Exactly what I was going to say...
I thought "management style" was a fairly important part of being a politician, particularly if we're talking about the UN ambassador.

Condi, I guess it doesn't matter to you that the guy you're propping up is a liar.....oh, I forgot, your a liar too...my bad.

19. Intimidation and Bullying is not a "Management Style"
I don't remember anyone ever recommending lying, and distorting information you pass up the line being a "management Style" either. I can't imagine how anyone could work for someone like this without either giving up their own ethics and conscience or having ending up fired at some point.

Well guess what, the American people deserve to have a UN ambassador that's not a right-wing hack with a huge chip on his shoulder.

6. Bolton acts no different than Bush. Bush purged CIA analysts who told
the truth about WMDs and who told the press about the White House trying to cook the intelligence books.

Of course Bush loves Bolton, they are one and the same....vengeful, petty, mean and willing to lie for war and power.

Bolton had information withheld FROM HER at the State Dept and she's acting like he's the best thing since sliced bread. It's all about her not wanting Bolton hanging around her department.

11. Oh now what do we have here.
Condaliar Rice is saying Bolton should just immediately be accepted, but there is no nucleur option for U.N. ambassadors.

He harassed a russian woman and did all sorts of disgusting sexual discriminations, and she believes he should just immediately be accepted?

Sorry, but I don't think Voinovich and the rational thinkers agree....Its a little too 'out there'

Since when does "management style" have anything to do with diplomacy and ambassadorial duties? George W. Bush is only one man; he needs his people to carry stupid all over the globe!

16. If Bolton is confirmed, an invasion of Iran is certain
Remember what Scott Ritter said - Bolton will be to Iran what Chalabi was to Iraq. Once Bolton's our ambassador to the UN, he'll spin wild yarns about Iranian nuclear capabilities and "dual-use" technology and all sorts of allegations designed to whip the FReepers into another frenzy.

Keep Bolton out of the UN at all costs. I know Condi's stroking herself at the thought of his confirmation, and that's all the more reason to stop him.

20. There seems to be an urgency to get Bolton approved...
wasn't that in question yesterday during committee? "What's the rush?"

Hmmmm, that Oil-for-food scandal IS hitting a little close to BushCo with the indictment of a TEXAS businessman.

21. I think it's just bullying
It's like everything else this administration does: my way or the highwway. They don't know how to govern, just how to intimidate and bloviate. The Bolton nomination was a deliberate snub to the Democrats, a flexing of muscle, and they aren't going to back down on it, because it would mean a loss of face. But the longer these hearings go on, the worse it's going to look for him, so Luger was desperately trying to shut them down and move the nomination to the Senate, where it would pass on a party-line vote.

24. Isn't democracy a pain in the ass?
You have all of those pesky checks & balances and accountability thingies getting in the way of a dictator driving the country to ruin. Plainly an unacceptable state of affairs. I suggest Kindasleezy emigrate to a place that will appreciate what she and her master are doing, like 1930s Germany.
