Rice Accused of Suppressing Terror Info (Waxman)
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050422/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/terror_report&e=4&ncid=

"There appears to be a pattern in the administration's approach to terrorism data: favorable facts are revealed while unfavorable facts are suppressed," Rep. Henry A. Waxman (news, bio, voting record) of California said in a letter to the department's acting inspector general, Cameron R. Hume.

{SNIP}

Waxman's letter followed an announcement Monday that the department had decided to stop publishing its annual statistical account of terror incidents worldwide, turning the task over to a government center established last year by Congress — the National Counterterrorism Center.

Last year, the department reported a decline in significant incidents of terror in 2003 and then issued a corrected version showing an increase.

The falloff had been used by senior Bush administration officials to bolster President Bush's claim of success in countering terrorism.

4. I called Waxman to say thank you today - he's my guy.
Further, I'd like him to examine whether Contradicta's muzzling of her State Department staffers if they have any info that might be bad for john bolton. Is that or is that not obstruction of justice - either outright or a strong flirtation with it?

5. Poor Waxman!
Didn't he get the memo? We're not dealing with reality-based facts and information anymore. Jeez! It's not like the he hasn't had enough notice!

7. Rice changed terrorism report
Julian Borger
Saturday April 23, 2005
The Guardian

A state department report which showed an increase in terrorism incidents around the world in 2004 was altered to strip it of its pessimistic statistics, it emerged yesterday.

The country-by-country report, Patterns of Global Terrorism, has come out every year since 1986, accompanied by statistical tables.

This year's edition showed a big increase, from 172 significant terrorist attacks in 2003 to 655 in 2004.

Much of the increase took place in Iraq, contradicting recent Pentagon claims that the insurgency there is waning.

8. " Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, ordered ..."
From the article:
"Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, ordered the report to be withdrawn and a new one issued minus the statistics."

WOW!!!

9. Maybe her reply to the accusation will be.....
"Truth, you can't handle the Truth!" Remember this is the administration that encourages industry to police themselves (Clean Skies Initiative) and we know how well industry can handle statistics (Arthur Anderson). What a terrific example this Administration sets for everyone in America! It does remind me of the story where the patient is unable to afford the needed medical treatment, so the doctor touches up the x-rays! :)
