A resolution to reinstate former rules headed for an overwhelming bipartisan passage, but Republicans backed it grudgingly.
GOP members, accused of trying to protect Majority Leader Tom DeLay from investigations, heeded Speaker Dennis Hastert's call for a retreat in order to end the deadlock on the evenly divided panel.
<snip>
Republicans leaving their weekly meeting in the Capitol basement generally praised Hastert for pivoting on the issue. DeLay seemed annoyed at the crowd of reporters.
Finally. It took them a matter of days to decide that getting a hummer was unethical, but they're just now deciding that selling votes is? I'm very cautiously optimistic about this. :banghead:
hastert would never let this happen unless he had some inside track that informs him that Delay will survive with a few bumps and cuts but will hold his power. This is a set up to get Delay off the front pages and say We even changed the rules so those nasty Democrats could get their pound of flesh from Poor Tommy! Most Americans don't even know that they changed the rules to protect Tommy Boy in the first place. They are going to slip out of this. Bush would never have been seen in public with Tommy if wasn't assured that in the end he will be given a clean bill of health bet on it!
5. Want to bet that they go after a Dem now? And put "Delay on delay"
I heard somewhere they were looking into some Dems going on trips, etc. No way they are going to investigate Delay. Bush's support means he walks. The media will love a story that goes after a Dem. These Rpigs control it all.
8. Yep, they're going to burn him...and hope everyone forgets THEIR crimes!
I hope Americans don't fall for that line of bullshit.
"Oh, we cleaned house, DeLay - who was the only one doing wrong we swear don't look at us hey look over there, terrorists or something! - is gone! Told ya we're honest! Honest!"
