Report: N. Korea May Have Fired Missile
TOKYO - The U.S. military informed Japan that North Korea may have fired a short-range missile toward the Sea of Japan Sunday morning, Kyodo News service reported.

Kyodo quoted unidentified government sources as saying that the U.S. military informed Japan's Defense Agency of the possible missile launch. The government was attempting to confirm the information, it said.

Very vague....

Are launches like this routine?

as it means that N.K. has developed the technology to attach a nuke warhead to a missile. They've been hinting they were going to do this test for a couple weeks now.

2. No, they are not routine.

It is surprising that a country that is as poor and backward as North Korea can develop such complex missiles.

There have also been hints about a underground nuclear test in June as well.

3. A story that no one will confirm
This is news today.

I don't see any connection with warhead capability demonstrations.

China was having so much trouble with payload telemetry the technology was illegally transferred to them by the US aerospace industry.

7. No one will confirm they can mount a nuclear warhead to a missile either
Edited on Sun May-01-05 09:38 AM by NNN0LHI
And if they did I wouldn't believe them. That was just one low level bozo talking out his ass who didn't know shit. And no one else in our government will admit there is any truth to it. Rice will be out any day know talking about mushroom clouds again.

It appears North Korea has conducted a test of a short-range missile, White House chief of staff Andrew Card tells CNN. Details soon.

White House Says N.Korea Apparently Tested Missile
White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card said on Sunday it appeared North Korea had tested a short-range missile.

``It appears that there was a test of a short-range missile by the North Koreans and it landed in the sea of Japan,'' Card said in an interview with CNN taped for later broadcast. ``We're not surprised by this. The North Koreans have tested their missiles before.''

26. Should we ignore DPRK's activities?
Or can we pay attention to both at the same time?

Peace.

10. Tests in mind again, maybe theyll fire a bigger one soon.
It's been a while since they fired a missle. If they do have a new missle, I suppose this could be a failed test -- only going a short distance, or they might want to remind us about testing before firing one that travels half the Pacific Ocean.

20. North Korea fired a a long range missile last winter.
Every source I read gave a different range, but if I recall it was about 2000-3000 km. Hawaii is probably in North Korea's crosshairs.

21. Do you have a reference to that long range test missile from last winter?
I googled and all I could find was some stuff about some cruise missile tests last year. And I believe 2000-3000 km is considered more an intermediate range rather than long range. I don't believe N Korea has ever tested anything considered long range. Thanks in advance.

Don

22. They test fired a missile a few months ago that went 60 kilometers
the equivalent distance of Dallas to Fort Worth.

They like to play with their bottle rockets once in a while.

11. US confirms North Korea apparently fired short-range missile

05.01.2005, 12:10 PM

WASHINGTON (AFX) - North Korea apparently fired a short-range missile into the Sea of Japan, White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card told CNN television, saying Washington was closely monitoring developments.

'It appears that there was a test of a short-range missile by the North Koreans and it landed in the Sea of Japan,' Card told the network.

'We're not surprised by this. The North Koreans have tested

their missiles before. They've had some failures,' he added.

13. Oh Please
Mythology is a great place to learn about the cycles of birth and death and renewal, I assure you the world is not about to end by any rational measure.

It ends and is reborn every day. "The World As We Know It" ended during the 400's, the dark ages, the Rennaissance, the Industrial Revolution, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Even if true it wouldn't be such a bad thing if you think about it. The world as I know it is built on money, power, fear...we are being born into a new world every day.

check out the Jaguar symbolism and the corn god, quetzlecuatl or watshisname...no offense intended earlier, response was to the argument, not meant to be rude. Sorry if it seemed too silly or crabby. Anyway.

A NK missile launch ought to be easy compared to that.

25. Interesting that a Yomiuri News article does not say "may have" fired
Edited on Mon May-02-05 09:42 AM by Art_from_Ark
Rather, it says that the US military informed the Japanese government that North Korea had fired one short range missile that landed in the Sea of Japan. The missile may have been a new type of ground-to-ground missile which, according to the Japanese Defense Agency, has a range of 100-150 kilometers. According to the article, North Korea has often launched modified Chinese Silkworm ground-to-ship missiles.
