U.S. Army Foot Patrol Attacked in Front of Mayor's Office in Fallujah; Convoy Attacked Southeast of Town
By Tarek Al-Issawi Associated Press Writer
Published: Oct 2, 2003

FALLUJAH, Iraq (AP) - Gunmen in a passing car opened fire with assault rifles on a U.S. Army foot patrol in front of the Fallujah mayor's office Thursday, and witnesses said some of the soldiers were killed or wounded. The U.S. military in Baghdad had no information on the incident.

Shortly before the attack, a fuel tanker in a U.S. convoy near Amiriyah, southeast of Fallujah, was hit by a mine or roadside bomb, according to Mohammed Hamid, 31, who lives near where the attack occurred. He said a soldier in the passenger seat of the cab pulling the tanker was killed and the driver was wounded. The military had no information on that attack either.

The fuel tanker was still burning two hours later.

In Fallujah, residents said the American forces fired tear gas and small arms after they were fired upon. Witnesses said a woman and child across the street were hit, but that report could not be independently confirmed.

2. "Bipartisan" majority swallows $87B demand
...while "2000 saddam supporters" conduct hundreds of attacks per month. Over 2000 total American casualties so far. Classical assymetric warfare.

The house whip repuke talks of the sacrifices already made justifying further huge and futile expenditures. Apparently he has never studied the Vietnam conflict and doesn't understand government economics 101 (sunk costs are no costs). He gives an elaborate rationalization for why other countries cannot expect to get their former loans to Saddam paid off because that government wasn't legitimate and didn't represent the Iraqi people. It doesn't even occur to him while the lying fraud Chalabi standing next to him grimaces, that this Iraqi government and the agreements it signs aren't legitimate either for the same reason.

9. Incompetent reporting, or incompetent reading?
It clearly says:

"The fuel tanker was still burning two hours later."

What is so hard to understand about that?

7. I hear ya
I've been in a majorly bad mood since then.. I can handle losing, but losing when the opponent cheats to win makes it 1000 times worse.

8. RIP
I'm so sick another one died today.

I guess this is another one of those "pockets of resistance" and everything is really going well elsewhere. Kids going to school (only surrounded by razor wire and armed guards). They act like these kids never went to school before.

BTW, I'm so glad our taxes bought their book bags, when my local teachers are selling their homes to downsize to apartments.

10. In spite of the good news this week
american soldiers are still dying, still being wounded, lunaville has the death toll at 316 now. I was telling my wife yesterday it was 314, and she said wasn't it 309 the other day. Now when she comes home I have to give her more bad news.
